John Chapters 13-17, Part 5
by Karl Kemp
We discuss John 15:1-15 here in Part 5. There is a strong emphasis in these verses on the requirement for Christians to abide in Christ the vine and produce good fruit for the glory of God, including the fruit of a godly life (keeping the commandments of God) and the fruit of assigned ministries being fully accomplished. Jesus gave the commandment to the apostles (which applies to us too) to love one another as they were loved by Him. It must be understood, of course, that we are totally dependent on the grace of God as we abide in the vine.

John Chapters 13-17, Part 4
by Karl Kemp
We finish John chapter 14 here in Part 4. Jesus tells His apostles that it is to His advantage, and theirs, that He leave and return to the Father. He will not leave them as orphans, but He will be with them through the Holy Spirit they will receive. He returned to the Father through the cross, where He earned new-covenant salvation for us (and totally overthrew Satan and his kingdom, which will be totally manifested at the proper time). There is an emphasis on the need for Christians to keep God's commandments (by the grace of God in Christ), which goes with loving Him.

We discuss John 14:5-15 here in Part 3. The relationship between God the Father and God the Son and the "greater works" that Jesus said we would do are two of the things we will discuss.

John Chapters 13-17, Part 2
by Karl Kemp
We discuss John 13:16-14:5 here in Part 2. Jesus spoke at some length of His betrayal, and John informs us how Jesus revealed that Judas was the one who would betray Him. In the first verses of chapter 14, Jesus exhorted His apostles (and us) to not let their hearts be troubled and went on to tell them that He was going to prepare a place for them (and us) in heaven and that He would come and receive them and take them (and us) to be with Him and God the Father forever. What a glorious destiny! And other verses show that we will be reigning too!

John Chapters 13-17, Part 1 (of 10 Parts)
by Karl Kemp
We discuss John 13:1-16 here in Part 1. The Lord Jesus ate a "Passover" meal with His apostles, and He washed their feet on that Thursday evening. The apostle John informs us that the Jews did not eat the Passover until the next evening, Friday evening (John 18:28). It would have been appropriate for Jesus and His apostles to eat the Passover with the rest of the Jews, but it was much more appropriate, it seems to me, for Him to be crucified when the Passover lambs were being slain in the temple, and John informs us that is what happened.

John Chapters 18-20, Part 6
by Karl Kemp
We finish the verse-by-verse study of John chapters 18-20 here in Part 6, starting with John 20:19. Sunday evening the resurrected Lord appeared to His disciples. We will discuss what these words mean, "He breathed on them and said to them, 'Receive the Holy Spirit.' " He appeared to them a week later, and Thomas, who wasn't there when He first appeared and doubted that Jesus had been resurrected responded with the words, "My Lord, and my God!"

John Chapters 18-20, Part 5
by Karl Kemp
We discuss John 19:36-20:18 here in Part 5. Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus buried Jesus late Friday afternoon, but very early Sunday morning the grave was empty. The resurrected Lord appeared first to Mary Magdalene (from whom He had cast seven demons [Luke 8:2]). His resurrection confirmed the overthrow of sin, Satan, and spiritual death and the full glory of our salvation that includes resurrection for all the believers who will have died and the glorification of all believers.

John Chapters 18-20, Part 4
by Karl Kemp
We discuss John 19:13-35 here in Part 4. Pilate handed Jesus over to be crucified. We discuss some of the details of the crucifixion, including the cross, the location of Golgotha, and the women who were there.
-
John Chapters 18-20, Part 3
by Karl Kemp
We discuss John 18:30-19:12 here in Part 3. The Jewish leaders turned Jesus over to Pilate, hoping he would quickly condemn Jesus and turn Him over to the Roman soldiers to be crucified. Pilate didn't quickly condemn Jesus, but he finally yielded to their pressure and, even though he said that "[he] found no guilt in Him," he turned Him over to be crucified.
-
John Chapters 18-20, Part 2
by Karl Kemp
I believe, in agreement with many, that Jesus was handed over to Pilate quite early, and that Pilate turned Him over to be crucified at something like 6:30 to 7:00 that fateful Friday morning. We will discuss many details regarding the measuring of time in that ancient world.

John Chapters 18-20, Part 1 (of 6 Parts)
by Karl Kemp
We discuss John 18:1-28 here in Part 1. Jesus was arrested in the Garden of Gethsemane, taken to Annas (a former high priest and the father in law of Caiphas, the high priest at that time), who questioned Him and then sent Him to Caiphas (and the rulers of Israel), who, after finding Jesus guilty, delivered Him to Pilate very early Friday morning.

John 1:19-4:54, Part 6
by Karl Kemp
We discuss John 4:24-54 here in Part 6. The Lord Jesus brings the woman at Jacob's well to salvation, and through her witness many Samaritans came to Jesus and became believers. Also, Jesus healed the son of a royal official at Capernaum and that man and his whole household became believers.

by Karl Kemp
We discuss John 3:26-4:23 here in Part 5. These verses include some very important teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ and salvation in Him. Most of John chapter 4 deals with many of the Samaritans coming to faith in Jesus, starting with the woman at Jacob's well.

John 1:19-4:54, Part 3
by Karl Kemp
We discuss John 3:1-13a here in Part 3, where Jesus was speaking with Nicodemus. Jesus shocked him by telling him that he must be born again of water and the Spirit of God to have a place in heaven.
-
John 1:19-4:54, Part 2
by Karl Kemp
We discuss John 1:43 through chapter 2 here in Part 2. These verses cover Jesus' calling of Philip and Nathaniel, His turning the water into wine at the wedding at Cana, and His being manifested as the Messiah at Passover in Jerusalem through cleansing the temple and working many miracles (signs).

John 1:19-4:54, Part 1 (of 6 Parts)
by Karl Kemp
We discuss John 1:19-42 in Part 1 of this verse-by-verse study of John 1:19-4:54. Along with many other Christians I have a special appreciation for the Gospel of John. In these verses we read of Jesus' being baptized and introduced by John the Baptist and of His receiving the Spirit to become the Anointed One (the Messiah/Christ) and the one who will immerse His disciples in the Holy Spirit, which, for one thing, will bring eternal life to them and enable them to be righteous and holy and ready for the day of judgment.

Isaiah's Little Apocalypse, Chapters 24-27, Part 6
by Karl Kemp
We finish this verse-by-verse study of Isaiah chapters 24-27 here in Part 6 with a verse-by-verse study of Isaiah 59:19-21 and Rom. 11:25-27. Both passages prophesy of God's saving the end-time remnant of Israel through new-covenant salvation.

Isaiah's Little Apocalypse, Chapters 24-27, Part 5
by Karl Kemp
God judges Israel in Isaiah chapter 27; then He saves the humbled, repentant remnant of Israel. Verse 12 mentions God's gathering up the end-time remnant of Israel with the sounding of a "great trumpet," which undoubtedly is the "great trumpet" of Matt. 24:31. This chapter also prophesies of God's saving the end-time remnant of the nations. This article also contains verse-by-verse studies of Isa. 10:20-23 and Rom. 9:27-29, passages that prophesy of God's saving the humbled, repentant end-time remnant of Israel after He judges them.
