1 Corinthians Chapter 14, Part 1
by Karl Kemp
The interpretation of this chapter isn't easy. For one thing, the translations differ several places in this chapter, and I believe that quite a few verses are often misinterpreted by many Pentecostals and charismatics. Some of the Christians who do not believe the charismatic gifts are for today torture 1 Corinthians chapters 12-14.

1 Corinthians Chapter 13
by Karl Kemp
The apostle Paul shows that though the charismatic gifts are important for this age, love (agape), which is eternal, is more important than the gifts. Using the gifts without love can do more harm than good.

1 Corinthians Chapter 12, Part 3
by Karl Kemp
We will further discuss the meaning of the words baptism in the Spirit here in Part 3. I'll quote from two scholars on this topic. They both agree that these words, as they are used in the New Testament, include the new birth along with the charismatic gifts.

1 Corinthians Chapter 12, Part 2
by Karl Kemp
We will start with 1 Cor. 12:13 and go to the end of 1 Corinthians chapter 12 here in Part 2. The apostle Paul shows that every Christian is important to the proper functioning of the Body of Christ, as we walk by the Spirit and make our contribution by the enablement/gifts of the Spirit of God. We discussed the meaning of the words baptism in the Spirit in Part 1, and we will further discuss the meaning of these super-important words here in Part 2 and in Part 3.

1 Corinthians Chapter 12, Part 1 (of 3 Parts)
by Karl Kemp
In 1 Corinthians chapters 12-14 the apostle Paul taught about charismatic gifts to address a misuse of the gifts by some in the church at Corinth. 1 Corinthians chapter 12 contains important teaching about the church being like a human body, with each member having different, important functions to perform for the good of the body, by the enablement/gifts of the Holy Spirit. We will discuss the meaning of the words baptism in the Holy Spirit. We will also discuss the meaning of the Greek words logos and rhema.

1 Corinthians Chapter 11, Part 1 (of 2 Parts)
by Karl Kemp
In the first half of 1 Corinthians chapter 11, the apostle Paul dealt with the need for women to have their heads covered (as a symbol of submission) when they were praying or prophesying in church. We will discuss the relevance of this instruction for our day. The second half of the chapter contains some very important teaching regarding the Lord's Supper. Paul wrote these words to address a serious abuse of the Lord's Supper by some of the Christians in the church at Corinth.

1 Corinthians Chapter 10, Part 2
by Karl Kemp
Those who have become united with God through the atoning death of His Son and by the indwelling Holy Spirit must (we have the privilege to) be faithful to Him. We cannot be involved in idolatry in any of its forms, where we are worshipping other gods or things, and we certainly cannot have any fellowship (communion) with the devil or his demonic hosts. The apostle Paul strongly warned some of the Corinthian Christians that they must quickly repent.

1 Corinthians Chapter 10, Part 1 (of 2 Parts)
by Karl Kemp
The apostle Paul strongly exhorted and warned his readers that they must fear sinning against God, lest they suffer the same fate the rebels among His people experienced in Old Testament days. Verse 13 is of key importance, "No temptation has overtaken you, but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it."

Philippians Chapter 3, Part 2
by Karl Kemp
In Phil. 3:12 the apostle Paul, using himself as an illustration of what all Christians must do, says that he must keep pressing on since he HASN'T BEEN PERFECTED/completed yet; that is, he hasn't finished his race and attained the prize of the glory of the age to come. However, in Phil. 3:15 he classes himself with those who have BECOME (RELATIVELY) PERFECT in the sense that they have died to the old man and are living in an abiding state of righteousness and holiness by grace through faith, which all Christians are called to.

Philippians Chapter 3, Part 1 (of 2 Parts)
by Karl Kemp
The emphasis of this study is on being dead to the old man and living in the righteousness and holiness of God, with the victory over sin. For one thing, it is important to see that the apostle Paul did not confess that he did not have the victory over sin in his life in Phil. 3:12. He did, however, emphasize the need for him, and all Christians, to disregard the things that lie behind and press on until the end.

Some Things We Should Know About the Meaning of the Words "Spirit" and "Soul," Part 2
by Karl Kemp
The words spirit and soul are not fully equivalent in meaning, but typically there is no substantial difference in meaning between the spirit of man and the soul of man, as these words are used in the New Testament. The three primary passages we will discuss here in part 2 of this article are Rom. 8:10; 1 Thess. 5:23; and James i:21.
