James spoke of being justified by works (not faith alone) in 2:21 and 24, but he was not speaking of works apart from faith. James was making one primary point in 2:14-26, that faith without works of righteousness (a life of righteousness) is dead faith. The apostle Paul, because of the added revelation he had received as the apostle to the Gentiles and the context in which he ministered, would not say we are justified (or saved) by works, but he would agree with the primary point that James was making here.
