Heirloom Preservation - A Keepsake Box
by Jessica Gerald

I love scrapbook journaling, but there are times when everything doesn't fit in a scrapbook. That's when a keepsake box can be just the thing you need.
My husband and I just celebrated our twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. My mother, sister, and best friend planned a beautiful celebration at the church in which we were married. I had fully intended to create a scrapbook of the occasion.
But as I looked over the mementos of the evening, I realized that a scrapbook would not suit my needs. That's when I decided to use an alternative form of remembering the celebration. I would create a keepsake box just for my twenty-fifth anniversary memories. Here are some ideas that may help you in a similar project.
The first step is to get an archival box. These come in many sizes. An archival box will preserve the contents from environmental damage and fading. I will make sure and label it for easy identification later on.
Here are some of the things I will put in the box:
*The guest book
*A copy of the invitation that was sent
*The cake knives that my sister bought for the party
*All the cards I received
*Pieces of crepe paper, silver garland, and other small decorations
Those are just a few possibilities. Now I still want to include photos and a written journal of the event. So I will write out the menu, and who prepared it. I will also write a couple pages of the planning of the event, and an account of the evening. Lastly, I will put the pictures on scrapbook paper with captions telling who the people are. The pictures and writings will be inserted in archival plastic sleeves and also added to the box.
I think it is important to do a project like this as soon as possible after the experience. You always think you will remember the details, but if you're like me, you don't.
A keepsake box can be used for many occasions. Hopefully these ideas can help you preserve some of the priceless memories of your life.
