Letter to the Barren
by Chris Umeweni
11/09/2008 / Family
Dearly beloved,
That you picked this article to go through wasn't an accident or mistake. Your set time has come! The Word of God in Psalm 102:13 declares:
Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to favour her, yea the set time is come.
Now, before you go on, I would want you to understand God's master plan for you. Perhaps the barrenness has been for so long that you have started taking barrenness as part of the normal life for you. From the beginning, it was not so.
When God created the trees, He gave seeds to each of them. Therefore, they were entitled to start multiplying by their seeds being sown. He never needed to create trees again, rather trees were meant to produce seeds. Even the animals were meant to give birth to their offspring. In addition, when God created the male and female, even in His own image, He gave them a command:
And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be
fruitful, multiply and replenish the earth, and subdue it. (Genesis 1:28a)
Oh! How our heavenly Father longs to see the female creation carry their young. This actually means that it is the will of God that when a husband and wife come together intimately, they should be fruitful. It also means He has configured every cell, tissue, organ and system of a woman to conceive and bear a child at the right time. So also is the man to whom God gave sperm; and to the woman egg and a womb. Therefore, whenever this does not happen the way God has made it, it then means that there is a missing link somewhere.
Even as I write, I understand what you are going through and what you have gone through, but Jesus understands better even more than you do. No one, not even your husband can feel what goes on deep inside of you. Maybe your husband believes in you but still the majority around you do not. You have even attempted going to sleep with another man to see if he can give you children. Don't you try it!
For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease. Though the root thereof wax old in the earth and the stock thereof dies in the ground; yet through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.
(Job 14:7-9)
Maybe doctors have examined you and confirmed you and your hubby medically fit to have a baby, but still you don't see any signs of conception; or perhaps you have been confirmed to carry no womb. Relax, for there is a sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God that has been handed down to us.
We are privileged that the man who called things that did not exist into existence by His Word made us in His image. Praise God! No wonder God was so clear to say to His people:
None shall lose her young by miscarriage or be barren in your land; I will fulfil the number of your days. (Exodus 23:26 Amp)
How God is searching for men and women who will foolishly take Him by the Word He says.
I heard a testimony about a woman who in her early years of pregnancy started dripping blood. To most women, it would have been, "Oh my God, why me? This is miscarriage." However, this woman's mentality was different. She remembered these same promises of God and said to herself, "This is just the excess blood my baby doesn't require."
And, at nine months, a bouncing baby came forth.
Inasmuch then as we have a great High Priest who has [already] ascended and passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son. For we do not have a High Priest who is unable to understand and sympathize and have a shared feeling with our weaknesses and infirmities and liability to the assaults of temptation, But One Who has been tempted in every respect as we are, yet without sinning. Let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace (the throne of God's unmerited favour to us sinners), that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find grace to help in good time for every need [appropriate help and well-timed, coming just when we need it]. (Hebrew 4:14-16 Amp)
God wanted us to know Him so well and also to know that which has been freely given to us, that He sent Jesus to come and become like us. God knowing so well that His people are destroyed for lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6), sent the Living Word, Jesus, that we may never be destroyed. And when Jesus came, He felt what we feel. He gave them knowledge by His preaching and teaching and also healed them of all their diseases (Matthew 4:23). He left them with these Words:
If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free. (John 8:31,32)
Stop the complaining and dependence on man to be the solution to your barrenness. Rachel made this mistake. She complained with her whole heart to her husband rather than to God.
When Rachel saw that she bore Jacob no children, she envied her sister and said to Jacob, Give me children or else I will die! (Genesis 30:1 Amp)
In that circumstance, you may say that is what every natural being should have done. Nevertheless, I want you to stop at your tracks and remember that since Jesus became Lord over your life, you ceased being a natural being but supernatural; no longer ordinary but extraordinary. Though you are in this world, you are not of this world (John 15:19). The way the world speaks shouldn't be the way you speak.
However, when Rachel finally turned her whole heart to God and poured it out to the Man who is so much interested in our hearts, the bible says:
And God remembered Rachel, and God hearkened to her, and opened her womb. (Genesis 30:22)
That was the end of many years barrenness. Not only did God stop at that, verse 23 and 24 of the same chapter says:
And she conceived, and bare a son; and said, God hath taken away my reproach: And she called his name Joseph; and said, The LORD shall add to me another son.
She gave birth to Joseph a world changer! She even went as far as having faith for more. There is nothing impossible with God.
The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it. (Proverbs 10:22)
That is exactly what God's gift does. No sorrow comes with it.
Hannah understood what it means going to God with the whole heart.
So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh and after they had drunk. Now Eli the Priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the LORD. And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the LORD and wept sore. (1 Samuel 1:12,13)
Never cry a cry of defeat. Rather, let your tears be tears of faith to God acknowledging that only He can take away your reproach.
And God heard her and gave her a world shaker, Samuel.
You can join faith with your husband and go to God in prayer, pouring out your hearts to Him. Limited space may not permit me to tell you of Rebekah whose 20 years of barrenness was broken because the husband believed God with the wife.
And Isaac prayed much to the LORD for his wife because she was unable to bear children; and the LORD granted his prayer, and Rebekah his wife became pregnant. (Genesis 25:21 Amp)
The testimony goes on to say in verse 23 that there were two nations in her womb! That is to say, twins. They were twins with a difference. That is what only God can do.
Do I begin to remind you of Sarah's countless years of barrenness and her blessed child Isaac?
What baffles me is that these women who believed God were only living in the era of the shadow of the real image to come (Hebrew 10:1). Jesus had not yet come in flesh.
For if because of one man's trespass (lapse, offense) death reigned through that one, much more surely will those who receive [God's] overflowing grace (unmerited favour) and the free gift of righteousness [putting them into right standing with Himself] reign as Kings in life through the one Man Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One). (Romans 5:17 Amp)
You see, we are meant to reign in this life as Kings. Glory to God! Barrenness is not for you. Your body is made to perform in the way God made it to perform. Fertility is your birthright.
Perhaps you have angered God by doing stupid things because of the reproach you suffered. The blood of Jesus is available to cleanse it all. Never go back to it again.
Could it be that you lost your womb in the course of abortion you committed in your past years, the Word can be made flesh (womb) and dwell in you. Hallelujah!
A broken and contrite heart, the LORD will not despise (Psalm 51:17). No matter what the cause is; be it a result of a curse laid upon you sometime. Go to God in the name of Jesus and every curse shall turn around to blessing.
There is no magic charm, no witchcraft that can be used against the nation of Israel. Now people will say about Israel, 'Look what God has done!'
(Numbers 23:23 GNB)
Something took my attention. After angel Gabriel who stands in the presence of God might have announced to Mary of her giving birth to Jesus, he said something:
And listen! Your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is now the sixth month with her who was called barren. For with God nothing is ever impossible and no word from God shall be without power or impossible of fulfilment.
(Luke 1:36,37 Amp)
Have people said you are now too old to give birth; therefore, your place in your husband's house must be taken. Go to the One who knows every part of your body and tell Him His Words of promises to you. Believe me; the shame will turn into a testimony for you. When Jesus' flesh was torn and His blood shed on the cross, all your shame, transgressions, and sorrows were laid on Him. There on the cross, He was an epitome of curse (Galatians 3:13). He went that far to restore to you the glory, dominion and dignity that were meant for you. You just have to digest more of His words and tap into the free gifts He left for you. Praise God!
As you go to God, do not go with empty words. Go to Him with His Words, which can be gotten from the bible. Give Him praises despite your pains. It will provoke Him to fight for you.
May I leave you with the testimony of a young girl who because of her "prostitution business" as she puts it told the doctors to remove her womb entirely so that she could stop doing abortions constantly and also to allow her "business" flourish. This she did.
However, after ten wasted years, she found Jesus and dedicated her life to follow Him. Suitors would come to ask her hand in marriage. Whenever she told them who she was and her condition, they would flee. One day, a suitor came, she repeated the same things to him, but the suitor was not moved. The suitor narrated his former life to the lady of how he too was a womanizer before he found Jesus. He assured the lady that if Jesus could perform the miracle of saving them from such destruction, He could also restore her womb. Finally, they got married, strongly believing God and confessing His Words.
Barely three months into their wedding, to cut the long story short, twins were found lying on the walls of the woman's intestine!
Now she is a proud mother of twins.
He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the LORD (Psalm 113:9).
