The cunning work of Satan in the division of the body
by Mark Heatherly
5/04/2008 / Church Life
Once upon a time there was a people who said " Come, let us build for ourselves a city, & a tower whose top will reach into heaven, & let us make for ourselves a name". This was man's first attempt to establish a firm foundation to have & possess & belong to a kingdom, a nation, a common fellowship or a brotherhood in which they could be a part of . This would give them a sense of security & purpose in a common bond of oneness. This would make them an impenetrable fortress as a unified group. It would ease all their fears & troubles & provide the means & grounds for a utopian society. This was nothing more however, than man's continued defiance & rebellion against God to make do for themselves. A social & cultural refinement by, of & for man & man alone. Man is stubbornly rebellious in seeking to develop & establish himself into a good man & thus have a good & peaceful existence in his world apart from God albeit through the tree of the knowledge of good & evil.
Since the days of Adam man has been trying to improve his behavior & society through self-help, social morals, cultural refinement & government. Though it has never come to fruition, it is still the ambition & goal of all Godless men. Tragically, it is even so for Christians today. God has provided the answer for all man's needs & desires in Christ yet those who have once repented ( or turned from sin & fellowship with the world system of Satan) & received forgiveness have turned their backs on the riches of Christ which is the treasure in earthen vessels. They reject the cross of Christ which has not only canceled out the judgment & punishment but also this very world we live in that we might abide in Him, looking forward to the coming kingdom & glorification of our being. This is our hope & our new life & being & we should remain in this. "By faith (living) as an alien in a foreign land looking for the city which has foundations, whose architect & builder is God". We should be as those who unite together in building up this very city as a unified body under the headship of Christ until we are "perfected in unity" & "all attaining to the unity of the faith". Instead we have divisional "denominations" wherein we care to identify & make a "name" for ourselves. I am of Baptist, I am of Lutheran, I of Catholic, I of Pentecostal, I of prosperity & etc. in order to belong to a group of commonality unified in thought, doctrine & purpose concerning religion instead of simply being unified in the purity & simplicity of devotion to Christ, & Him in you & we. This we do in the same manner & purpose as the people of Babel.
Then, to ad insult to injury we Christians further divide ourselves according to intellect, status, riches, culture & even race. How despicable the testimony of those who are to be known by their love for one another who truly care only for themselves easily tearing down & destroying those who appear to them to be the "lesser of these". This is a shameful generation who think they honor & worship God in a beautifully refined, creative & advanced way who in truth despise the way & the truth & the life in their heart & living . The very fact that there exist divisions (denominational contentions & jealousy) among you does this not prove that you are worldly & fleshly walking like mere men (see Babel).
Also troubling is brethren who still try to hold on to worldly harmful & divisive things such as what the world calls racial discrimination & thus the need for racial cohesion & the resulting separation by participating in groups &/or organizations for the so-called rights, preservation & even elevation of a certain race. This is still the Babel in men who should know better. Men who have the treasure of Christ within & have no further need for such things as worldly esteem, recognition, & racial or heretical pride for we, having clothed ourselves with Christ are no longer Jew nor gentile, slave nor free, black nor white, neither even male nor female but we are all one in Christ. How can one who "now no longer knows any man according to the flesh" still want to be involved with anything which makes any kind of distinction at all among men whether it be race, social, financial or intellectual status. Jesus Himself has made the peace tearing down the dividing walls. We have this peace, this common fellowship, this security made secure by the power of God so who is there to oppose it? Must we try to make it a reality in the "world" ? This world is not the reality, it is the domain & devise of Satan & it has been done away with by the cross of Christ so then why try to reform that which God Himself has repudiated & rejected. The reality is in Christ & this is where we find true peace. It cannot be found in this world & we must cease from trying to force it upon a world which cannot accept it. We must remember that this world is under the power & authority of Satan who is opposed to all that is holy & righteous. What, do you think you are stronger than God in being able to change the world & Satan? God has declared that He will not change the world nor Satan for they have already been judged & He has ordained that a new heaven & earth will take their place.
Let us instead commit ourselves to the purity & simplicity of devotion to Christ in the unity of the faith. If we will but do this we shall experience in our daily living the peace, joy, fulfillment & satisfaction we so desperately seek & desire. But remember, it is not to be found in our environment or circumstances but in our spirit wherein Christ resides. We miss the truth when our sight is set upon the things which we see in this world & this realm. The kingdom of God is within you in this present age. It has not yet been made manifest to be seen on the earth. This will come shortly, but take courage, for now we live by faith in the reality (or truth) of the "abundant" life of Christ within our spirit. If we will but live & walk in the spirit then the head will have a body & then you will see & experience the glory of the Lord. Then the prayer will come true, "Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven" & finally "Your kingdom come". Is this not what the goal & aim should be of those who were blood bought with so great a price & not glory for self , & that in this world which rejects all that is God ? But take up your cross & deny yourself & make for yourselves treasure that will not fade away. Stop living in this world as if it were your treasure, your goal, your life. Do not demand glory nor anything for yourself in this world but humble (empty) yourself under the mighty hand of God & He Himself shall exalt you in the proper place & time.
Let God be God, but only let the light that is in you shine forth so as to accomplish it's divine purpose, not you & your self-made plans & agendas no matter how good, lofty & sincere they may be. Peter was of this persuasion when he tried to convince the Lord not to take the cross & die. This should be made quite evident that His ways are above our ways & we should seek only Him & let Him work out all things in & through us according to His divine purpose & will . Do not be so vain & arrogant as to suppose that anything seemingly good from our soul-life must of necessity be of His will & thus you shall do it, but wait upon the Lord, stand still & see the working out of His salvation throughout all creation. You have not been included in His divine councils so stop acting, saying & doing things unless it is something you have seen that the father does. Let God be God, & be satisfied to be His slave & servant & only to move as you are moved by the Spirit within. This is to be our aim, to live & walk by the Spirit within our spirit. Also, do not be deceived so as to assume that you are in spirit just because you are a Christian. All I can say is that you will know that you are in spirit when in reality you are, but you will not know it otherwise. Few there are who know as is evidenced in the carnal existence of divisions in race & status & fortune & denominations. Please beware, as denominations have to do with the practice of religion & Satan is the god of religion in this evil age seeking to draw all men to himself & serve his evil purposes. If you do not believe this look at the religions in this world such as Islam, Buddhism, Mormonism & so on. Even the religious practices of Christians are opposed to Christ. This is a greatly misunderstood topic today. Please study & see how John the Baptists & Christs ministry on earth were outside of religion & note how very deliberate this was. The practice of religion is very much the devise of Satan whereas the true children of God seek God in spirit & truth. This is the great mystery of the gospel, it is Christ in you ! May the Lord give you eyes to perceive the difference of Christ vs. religion.
Lord have mercy upon the ignorance of your children & extend your healing hand so as to remove the idolatry in your children so that they may see that they are wretched & miserable & poor & blind & naked & that they may buy from you gold refined by fire so as to become rich, & white garments so that they may clothe themselves, & that the shame of their nakedness will not be revealed ; & eye ointment to anoint their eyes so that they may see.
I make my writings available to all, but I would very much like to hear from those who have questions or comments or are built up & enriched & also from those who wish to use my writings for reprint.
