Sick of Heart, Body and Soul

by PamFord Davis
10/31/2024 / Devotionals

Both believers and skeptics continue to search for the Loch Ness Monster. Something has raised its head; what was it? Photographs have circulated for years that later proved to be hoaxes. I for one don’t believe in monsters and have never seen Nessie raise her head.

King Hezekiah was sick of heart, body and soul. Pride had raised its head.

“In those days Hezekiah became mortally ill; and he prayed to the Lord, and the Lord spoke to him and gave him a sign. But Hezekiah did nothing in return for the benefit he received, because his heart was proud; therefore wrath came upon him and upon Judah and Jerusalem (2 Chronicles 32:24-25 NASB).”

The prideful heart of Hezekiah greatly affected the lives of those around him. (Pride leadeth to a fall quickly comes to mind.) In reality, that can be for the best. We will fall to our knees in humility and confess our sins.

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous, so that He will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us (1John 1:9-10 NASB).”

God is merciful.

“However, Hezekiah humbled the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the Lord did not come on them in the days of Hezekiah (2 Chronicles 32:26 NASB).”
