*SANCTIFICATION SERIES — Every Friday* Friday 23rd August, 2024 (Released Saturday 24th August, 2024) PART 1: REASONS WHY THERE IS ZERO OR LOW SANCTIFICATION IN THE CHURCH, ESPECIALLY AMONG LEADERSHIP* *LESSON 5: LACK OF SOUND TEACHING* Ministering: Segun Olumide *Introduction* Some months ago, I started Sunday series on *REASONS WHY THERE IS ZERO OR LOW SANCTIFICATION IN THE CHURCH, ESPECIALLY AMONG LEADERSHIP,* but after a short while I stopped. But now, we shall continue it every Friday, God willing. And, if you have not seen the previous lessons, you may search them up online or request them on WhatsApp. *LESSON 1: Reason 1: JOINED TO IDOLS (WRONG WORSHIP, CULTISM, OCCULTISM, ETC)* *LESSON 2: Reason 2: MORE EMPHASIS ON FINANCIAL & MATERIAL PROSPERITY, SUCCESS, MIRACLES, HEALING AND DELIVERANCE THAN ON INWARD & OUTWARD HOLINESS, HEAVEN & HELL, LOVE & JUDGEMENT, FEAR OF GOD, CHRISTIAN ETHICS & ETIQUETTE* *LESSON 3: Reason 3: SOME CHURCHES ARE GROWING FASTER IN QUANTITY (MEMBERSHIP & BRANCHES) THAN IN QUALITY (STRENGTH & CHARACTER)* *LESSON 4: Reason 3: HYPOCRISY* Now, let go into today's teaching. *LESSON 5. LACK OF SOUND TEACHING* The fifth reason why there is zero or low sanctification in the church, especially among leadership is lack of sound teaching or doctrine. 2 Timothy 4:3 - 4 KJV *3 For the time will come when they will not endure SOUND DOCTRINE; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.* 2 Timothy 4.3 - 4 NLT *3. For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to RIGHT TEACHING. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever they want to hear. 4. They will reject the truth and follow strange myths.* 2 Timothy 4.3 - 4 Amplified Bible *3. For the time is coming when [people] will not tolerate (endure) SOUND AND WHOLESOME INSTRUCTION, but, having ears itching [for something pleasing and gratifying], they will gather to themselves one teacher after another to a considerable number, chosen to satisfy their own liking and to foster the errors they hold, 4. And will turn aside from hearing the truth and wander off into myths and man-made fictions.* 2 Timothy 4.3 - 4 Living Bible *3 For there is going to come a time when people won’t listen to THE TRUTH but will go around looking for teachers who will tell them just what they want to hear. 4 They won’t listen to what the Bible says but will blithely follow their own misguided ideas.* 2 Timothy 4.3 - 4 Message Bible *3. You're going to find that there will be times when people will have no stomach for SOLID TEACHING, but will fill up on spiritual junk food--catchy opinions that tickle their fancy. 4. They'll turn their backs on truth and chase mirages.* According to Strong's Greek Dictionary of the New Testament, the Greek word translated *"sound"* in 2 Timothy 4:3 is *"hugiaino,"* and it means figuratively *"to be uncorrupt (true in doctrine)."* So, sound doctrine means uncorrupt, true or unadulterated set of teachings of God's Word. And from all these Bible versions above, we can put it as RIGHT TEACHING, SOUND AND WHOLESOME INSTRUCTION, THE TRUTH or SOLID TEACHING of God's Word. Paul foretold in verse 3 that a time would come when people would turn deaf ears to sound teaching. Rather, they would enjoy gathering and listening to a bunch of false teachers and unbalanced teachers who will whip up their emotions, satisfy their carnal pursuits, lusts and greed, strengthen their errors, say what they want to hear, and not what they need to hear, say what is trending or in vogue, and not what the Spirit is saying to the Churches. Birds of a feather flock together. Unfortunately, we are now in that terrible season. Similarly, in the preceding chapter, Paul foretold that perilous, difficult or terrible times shall come in the last days as seen below: 2 Timothy 3.1 Amplified Bible *But understand this, that in the last days will come (set in) PERILOUS TIMES of great stress and trouble [hard to deal with and hard to bear].* 2 Timothy 3.1 Message Bible *Don't be naive. There are DIFFICULT TIMES ahead.* 2 Timothy 3.1 NIV *But mark this: There will be TERRIBLE TIMES in the last days.* The Living Bible puts this verse in a more striking way. Let's see it: 2 Timothy 3:1 Living Bible *You may as well know this too, Timothy, that in the last days it is going to be VERY DIFFICULT TO BE A CHRISTIAN.* We are now in the very last moments, minutes or seconds of the last days. Friend, we need to understand the fifth reason why there is zero or low sanctification in the Church, especially among leadership, which is, the lack of sound teaching. Sound teaching is very hard to come by these days because majority don't want such. You see, when we corrupt, adulterate or water down God's Word to gain membership, popularity or financial support; or in a bid not to offend some people, then it results in zero or low sanctification in the Church. For example, the false teaching of eternal security, which claims that once saved always saved has done great damage to the body of Christ by making some believers live recklessly in sin. It's surely a license to sin. But, Paul wrote in Romans 6.1 -2 *1. What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2. God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?* I know of a denomination whose founder taught on eternal security at their Bible study in which I was present. Then one of the brothers asked a burning question whether or not a believing brother committing fornication when the trumpet sounds will be raptured. And the Church founder answered that such a fornicating brother will be raptured! I was shocked, but kept quiet because there was no liberty to speak. At another time, the assistant pastor gave me an audio cassette by one of the famous preachers in this country, in which he explained John 3:16 wrongly. John.3.16 *For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.* He said boldly, *"whosoever believeth in him SHOULD NOT PERISH..."* is a spiritual law. In other words, he said once you believe in Christ Jesus, you cannot perish again. So, he's an apostle of eternal security. And he has taught a number of nasty things on television. That Church founder and his assistant were both drinking from the same polluted fountain. Eventually, that erroneous teaching among other things destroyed a lot of people and closed down that local Church in that particular town. I don't want to go into some horrible details. It's very painful. My wife and I suffered from some consequences in the long run. I believe both the founder and his assistant must have learnt their lessons now. And in recent times, there is a popular and vocal teacher polluting the minds of people with the same poison. His name is almost everywhere now on the internet. And he's gaining followership and viewership. For Biblical teaching against eternal security, you may listen to my message: *WRONG PURPOSES OF FIVEFOLD MINISTRY — PART 4* *JESUS DIDN'T GIVE US FIVEFOLD MINISTRY TO DIVIDE OR TEAR DOWN THE CHURCH* *WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY ABOUT ETERNAL SECURITY OR ONCE SAVED ALWAYS SAVED?*
