Forgiven and Free

Monday was once known as Blue Monday; housewives sang the washday blues. I picture women rubbing their knuckles raw or pulling clothes through wringer washers.

Why should I complain? Pioneer women really roughed it.

They boiled family laundry over wood fires in big outdoor pots. Think that was tedious? Earlier still, they beat clothes against rocks in nearby streams. They did their best to get them clean.

Every day is washday for the Rock of Ages. He cleanses us of our sins.

“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us (1 John 1:7-10 KJV).”

LORD, remove the stain of my sins.

… “wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow (Psalm 51:7 b KJV).”

We can be clean; forgiven and free of guilt and shame.

“Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered (Psalm 32:1 KJV).”
