OUR EXAMPLE OF HUMAN PERFECTION: JESUS
by linzy bruno
1/16/2024 / Bible Studies
Jesus came as our Example, not that we could ever reach perfection; we benefit greatly looking to Him as our example, nonetheless.
In order to rightly divide the Word of Truth requires study, and study requires that more than just one passage of Scripture is examined, and those passages extend beyond the starting place; crossing over into other books of the Bible.
Jesus came into the world as one of us so that He could relate to us and demonstrate and teach us what God loves, what God hates, and what God expects from those who love Him.
Furthermore, there is something else about Jesus being our Example, in which believers may benefit.
Through the verses below, we can derive that as He walked this earth, He willing denied Himself of all deity, including knowing the exact time in which He would return to earth, first to the earth’s atmosphere to snatch believers safely away from disaster, and then again to set up His Millennial Kingdom for His 1,000 year Reign.
He emptied Himself in order to be our Perfect Example of godliness and humility:
“who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.” (Philippians 2:6-8)
Jesus told His Disciples He did not know of the time of His Return:
“But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.” (Matthew 24:36)
But He was God then and will always be GOD. And moreover, He was willingly humbled under God while on the earth:
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.” (John 1:1-3)
VERSE 10—
“He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.”
VERSE 14—
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth,”
Paul told his Church that Jesus would come in the clouds and rescue their people in the evil day:
“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words” (1Thessalonians 4:16-18)

Passages on the Millennial Kingdom to come:
“Give the king Your judgments, O God, And Your righteousness to the king’s Son. He will judge Your people with righteousness, And Your poor with justice. The mountains will bring peace to the people, And the little hills, by righteousness. He will bring justice to the poor of the people; He will save the children of the needy, And will break in pieces the oppressor. They shall fear You As long as the sun and moon endure, Throughout all generations. He shall come down like rain upon the grass before mowing, Like showers that water the earth. In His days the righteous shall flourish, And abundance of peace, Until the moon is no more. He shall have dominion also from sea to sea, And from the River to the ends of the earth.” (Psalm 72:1-8)
“So you shall know that I am the LORD your God, Dwelling in Zion My holy mountain. That Jerusalem shall be holy, And no aliens shall ever pass through her again.” (Joel 3:17)
NOTE: This Millennial depiction continues to verse 21
Jesus willingly forfeited His Deity while on the earth for our sakes, in order that we may behold His Perfect Example, but the Scripture is clear that He IS GOD and has always been God since the foundation of the world, prior to that, and forever.
He has had no beginning and will have no end:
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1)
When we look at these in proper context we learn that Jesus voluntarily emptied Himself of His Divinity in order to show us how to rely on God for everything. Jesus incarnate, fully man, fully God, yet willingly He humbled Himself to keep Himself from fully functioning as God on the earth.
His disciples asked Him several times about when He would come back and He answered that He did not know, only God knows, BUT since ascending to Heaven, He knows all as God, for He is GOD functioning at full Omniscience.
Moreover, this revelation further reveals why He prayed to His Father in Heaven; fully leaning on Him, regardless of Who He was and IS and will always BE, so that we could be afforded that Perfect Example of the importance of humility, faithfulness and godliness; resisting all temptations toward pride. (As we lean on Him!)
