DOING UNTO OTHERS

"And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.' This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these." (Mark 12:30-31)
In the world we are taught to put ourselves as the head of everything we do and aspire to do and become; to be all we can be, to look out for number 1, and the like, but in living with this countenance, we inevitably face only disappointment, frustration and loneliness, (and this means of living separates us from others and the plight of their needs and ambitions):
"I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and indeed, all is vanity and grasping for the wind." (Ecclesiastes 1:14)
But, through God's Word, we learn that there are two keys to a satisfying life: the consecration of our hearts unto Him and loving others as we love ourselves. And without the consecration of our hearts, which is the commitment to Him through the strength and enabling of Christ Jesus, we cannot put others first, for without God, we can do nothing:
"I am the vine, and you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing." (John 15:5)
Therefore, God's Word instructs that we love Him above all else and love others as ourselves; keeping their interests above our own whenever there is an occasion to do so. But when we put God as the head of our lives, He makes this come naturally. However, if we do find ourselves struggling to get to this highest point in love, we may find His Instructions useful. When it comes to matters of love, the re-prioritizing of our hearts may be necessary.....We can then remind ourselves to love:
Jesus first,
then others….
then Yourself
And, by taking the first of these letters we get JOY, both in allogory as well as real life!
Putting others first is not possible without first putting God as #1 no matter what, regardless of how we feel or think. And only God can enable us to get to this most desirable heart condition:
"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you." (Matthew 6:33)
And the way we treat others is measured back on ourselves:
"Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you." (Luke 6:38)
VERSES ON PUTTING GOD FIRST
“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. I do not set aside the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the law, then Christ died in vain.” (Galatians 2:20-22)
“He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.” (Matthew 10:37-39)
And when surrender to the Will of God, He showers His gifts of satisfaction, peace, love, and His wondrous blessings upon us:
“And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.” (John 6:35)
“He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” (John 7:38)
“You will show me the path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” (Psalm 16:11)
“The poor shall eat and be satisfied;
Those who seek Him will praise the Lord.
Let your heart live forever!” (Psalm 22:26)
“For He satisfies the longing soul,
And fills the hungry soul with goodness.” (Psalm 107:9)
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)
VERSES ON PUTTING OTHERS FIRST
"Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets." (Matthew 7:12)
"And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise." (Luke 6:31)
"By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." (John 13:35)
"Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another." (Romans 12:10)
"Let no one seek his own, but each one the other's well-being." (1Corinthians 10:24)
"Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interest of others." (Philippians 2:3-5)
"We then who are strong ought to bear with the scruples of the weak, and not to please ourselves." (Romans 15:1)
“But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.” (1Timothy 5:8)
“Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” (John 15:13)
Scripture teaches believers to put others above themselves and to avoid thinking more highly of themselves as we/they ought:
"For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith." (Romans 12:3)
This Principle may seem like a self-defeating one, especially with the influence of society taken into account. However, when we follow Christ Jesus, blessings will follow. The LORD God will bless in accordance with each one’s obedience, and that of their household:
“Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the LORD your God. Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the country. Blessed shall you be the fruit of your body, the produce of your ground and the increase of your herds, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flocks. Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl. Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out. The LORD will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways. The LORD will command the blessing on you in your storehouses and in all to which you set your hand, and He will bless you in the land which the LORD God is giving you.” (Deuteronomy 28:1-8)
“And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” (Mark 12:30-31)
