When Your Night Visions Are Disturbing
by Tonja Taylor
6/22/2023 / Christian Living
It is recorded in the Word of God that the LORD often works through dreams. He still speaks in dreams to us today.
However, if the LORD sends us a dream (whether a positive direction, or a negative image or warning), He will be faithful to confirm it.
The main way He confirms anything in our lives is with His holy, unchanging, eternal Word, the Bible.
Establish Your word and confirm Your promise to Your servant, which is for those who reverently fear and devotedly worship You.--Psalm 119:38, AMPC
I just had a strange dream last night, and I think it was a combination of staying up later than usual, and thus not getting enough sleep. I believe it was from the enemy. Sometimes, the enemy has sent night visions (always negative in some way, whether physically perverted--with someone other than my spouse; or with someone trying to harm me with violence; or with a minister being disproving toward me; or some other aberration of my true life in God.
However, sometimes it can be the LORD working to get a message to us, so we need to check with the Holy Spirit to make sure.
He leads us by peace, and has delivered us from torment and other afflictions (almost always, such weird night visions I've had have just been the enemy trying to bully me; trying to plant a seed of fear in me about something. The enemy is full of fear, but God did not give us that spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound (peaceful, disciplined) mind! Hallelujah!
For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control.--2 Timothy 1:7, AMPC
Years ago, I had a dream of me looking in the mirror. I noticed a spot at the top of my forehead. I walked closer to the mirror to see the spot better. To my revulsion, I realized it was the head of a snake, sticking out of my head! Revolting!
This night vision disturbed me deeply for three days! I asked the LORD about it--several times--thinking that perhaps He was revealing to me that I had some deep, hidden, unconfessed sin or something.
Bless His holy name, God is a good, good Father. He finally got through to me that the snakehead represented not sin, praise the LORD, but sin-consciousness; being more aware of my mess-ups (and others'!) than the glorious fact that--because I believe in what the pure blood of Jesus shed on the cross over 2,000 years ago did for me, to cleanse and save me from my sins; because I do believe in that atoning power--I am the Righteousness of God in Christ Jesus!
But it is from Him that you have your life in Christ Jesus, Whom God made our Wisdom from God, [revealed to us a knowledge of the divine plan of salvation previously hidden, manifesting itself as] our Righteousness [thus making us upright and putting us in right standing with God], and our Consecration [making us pure and holy], and our Redemption [providing our ransom from eternal penalty for sin].--I Corinthians 1:30, AMPC
Hallelujah!
So, know this: just as we comfort our children when they have bad dreams/negative night visions, and, unless the LORD shows us differently, remind our dear kiddos that fear and negatives are of the defeated devil and not from Daddy God, then so does the LORD comfort us.
One thing I've learned is to tell negative images or dreams or night visions out of my mind. I repent for anything I've said and done to allow the enemy to torment me in a night vision, then by faith, I ask the LORD to forgive me, and slam the door, in the Name of Jesus!
I cast my cares (read: STOP WORRYING and thinking the LORD is mad about something. Once we received Christ Jesus as our Savior and LORD, the blood of the LORD Jesus covers us, and God starts smiling at us and seeing us through Grace, from that moment on! Hallelujah!
19 Therefore, brethren, since we have full freedom and confidence to enter into the [Holy of] Holies [by the power and virtue] in the blood of Jesus, 20 By this fresh (new) and living way which He initiated and dedicated and opened for us through the separating curtain (veil of the Holy of Holies), that is, through His flesh, 21 And since we have [such] a great and wonderful and noble Priest [Who rules] over the house of God, 22 Let us all come forward and draw near with true (honest and sincere) hearts in unqualified assurance and absolute conviction engendered by faith (by that leaning of the entire human personality on God in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness), having our hearts sprinkled and purified from a guilty (evil) conscience and our bodies cleansed with pure water.--Hebrews 10:19-22, AMPC
Another positive point is to ask the LORD for dreams of your future. He utilizes your imagination (which He gave every person, to use for only good!) to inspire and lead you in His wonderful Plan for you!
For we are God’s [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live].--Ephesians 2:10, AMPC
The dreams you have in your heart--especially if they are to help other people, which of course is God's heart!--are most likely from the LORD. Sometimes, we pick up other people's dreams and/or Assignments, or sometimes, the LORD gives us a dream about our life Assignment many years ahead of time, to start drawing and convincing us that, in Him (only), we can embrace and fulfill this wonderful Plan.
Another thing about positive dreams is that the LORD usually only shows us a step or two at a time. His thoughts are much higher than ours, but when we seek Him in the Word daily, and prayers, and worship, and strengthening and exercising our gifts, He goes to work and amazing things will happen!
20 Now to Him Who, by (in consequence of) the [action of His] power that is at work within us, is able to [carry out His purpose and] do superabundantly, far over and above all that we [dare] ask or think [infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, hopes, or dreams]—21 To Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations forever and ever. Amen (so be it).--Ephesians 3:20-21, AMPC
So you can ask the LORD about dreams or night visions in two ways: Ask Him to interpret any negative night visions if needed. If you don't get any explanation, then just forget it; it was a "hotdog" dream, which I've heard some ministers say is simply the natural subconscious flushing information, and thus any images and thoughts generated are really meaningless.
Also, ask the LORD to give you positive dreams; dreams or night visions about the glorious future God has for you!
You may not get them every night; the things of the Spirit are more often as the LORD wills, but He is a good, good Father. If you need and want dreams from Him, He will send them at the proper time, and there will be peace with them, and hope, and possibly deep excitement. Jesus is the Prince of Peace!
Enjoy the journey, and most of all, know that the LORD is good and loves you! Hallelujah!
