Psalm 91:4
He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.
Thousands of years back, God’s people were in lockdown. God had raised up Moses to deliver his children from slavery under the Egyptians. In the process, God inflicted 10 plagues on the Egyptians to force Pharaoh to release the Israelites from slavery. The last plague was the plague of death. On the night before they were to leave Egypt, God commanded Moses to bring the Israelites indoors for 24 hours while the plague persisted. They were to slaughter a spotless lamb and spread its blood on the doorframes of their homes as a guard against the plague. While the whole household remained locked down under the blood of the lamb, they were safe.
One of the most prolific scriptures quoted at this time of lockdown under the coronavirus has been Psalm 91. In the Psalm, we read that whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. He will cover his beloved with his feathers and under his wings will he find refuge. A lovely illustration of this is seen when a mother bird broods over her young in her nest as they shelter under her wings. However, I would like to take the analogy a step further.
In the holy of holies of the Tabernacle of God, we find the ark of the covenant. The ark consisted of a gold-clad wooden box containing several holy artefacts. The lid of the ark was called the Mercy Seat. Once a year on Yom Kippur the High Priest would enter the holy of holies and sprinkle the blood of a spotless lamb upon the Mercy Seat for the remission of sins. Overshadowing the Mercy Seat were statues of two great cherubim, representing the throne of God (as seen in Revelation). God is said to be enthroned between the cherubim. Their wings were stretched out over the Mercy Seat, covered in the blood of a lamb.
Jesus, the Lamb of God, suffered and died on a cross, pouring out his lifeblood for your sins and mine. This act redeemed us from the curse of sin, which is death. His blood was sprinkled, once for all, upon the true Mercy seat of God – his heavenly throne. Psalm 91 says that under his wings we will find shelter. That is, upon the Mercy Seat of God’s throne, overshadowed by his wings and sprinkled with the blood of the Lamb of God we have redemption and refuge.

SO, DON’T GIVE UP, LOOK UP & PRAY
“You are my shelter! You are my refuge! You are my redemption!”
“Dear Lord, thank you for Jesus. Thank you that he shed his blood, which is sprinkled upon your eternal Mercy Seat, to both redeem me from sin and rescue me from all calamity. Under your wings I find refuge. Under your wings, I am sheltered from evil and harm. Dear God, I declare today that I will remain locked down under the shadow of your wings and upon your Mercy Seat covered in the Blood of Jesus. You are my shelter! You are my refuge! You are my redemption! Amen.”
