*7 REASONS WHY EVERY BELIEVER SHOULD PAY THEIR TITHES — PART 2*

*Introduction*

Last week, we considered the first reason out of the 7 reasons why every believer should pay their tithes.

That first reason mentioned was this — *REASON 1: TITHES STARTED BEFORE THE LAW; WERE EFFECTIVE AND REINFORCED UNDER THE LAW; AND CONTINUES AFTER THE LAW – UNDER GRACE*

Now, this week, by God's grace, we are looking at the second reason, namely:

*REASON 2: TITHES BELONG TO GOD.*

From the Scriptural standpoint, tithes belong to neither you nor me.

They don't belong to the apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors or teachers, either.

Rather, they belong to God and God alone!

Only a foolish and greedy pastor or Church leader will ascribe the ownership of God's tithes to himself.

So, God is the sole owner of all tithes; but the pastor is just a caretaker of the tithes because he is the head of the local Church.

You see, a local Church or assembly must not be pastored perpetually by an apostle. He may be the founder or planter of it, and may pastor it initially and temporarily, but a time comes, when he puts a pastor in charge and goes out to apostolize other people or places for he's a travelling minister, and not a residing minister like a pastor (see Acts 13 - Acts 28).

Of course, an apostle should monitor, through the respective pastors, the tithes (and offerings) that come in to the Churches he oversees.

Nevertheless, the pastor of every local Church is to manage and administer correctly the tithes and offerings of that Church, as a faithful steward, and not the owner, ensuring that they are used for their God-intended Scriptural purposes, neither diverted nor embezzled.

*Moreover, it is [essentially] required of STEWARDS that a man should be found FAITHFUL [proving himself worthy of trust].*

*Now it is required that THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN GIVEN A TRUST must prove FAITHFUL.*

As a matter of caution, every minister who is not called to be a pastor should never venture into pastoring for any reason. I strongly believe that some are self-made pastors today because they want to enjoy tithes and offerings.

Also, those other fivefold ministers should never abandon their calling for pastoral calling because of the financial and material benefits a pastor enjoys.

Since I'm not dealing with Church financial administration and management, I don't want to go too deeply along this line.

Therefore, I will only say that it's wrong, unapostolic and unScriptural for an apostle to ask all the Churches he oversees to send in all their tithes and offerings weekly to the headquarters where he's based.

He must ensure that all those Churches under his jurisdiction are self-supporting, self-governing and self-propagating.

Paul wrote: "Behold, the third time I am ready to come to you; and I will not be burdensome to you: for I seek not yours, but you: *FOR THE CHILDREN OUGHT NOT TO LAY UP FOR THE PARENTS, BUT THE PARENTS FOR THE CHILDREN"* (2 Corinthians 12:14 KJV).

Take notice of the expression: *... FOR THE CHILDREN OUGHT NOT TO LAY UP FOR THE PARENTS, BUT THE PARENTS FOR THE CHILDREN.*

The lesson here is that if Church A reproduces or gives birth to 20 different Churches, then Church A is the parent Church or mother Church, while those 20 Churches are the children or offshoots of Church A.

Therefore, since the Scripture says that THE CHILDREN OUGHT NOT TO LAY UP FOR THE PARENTS, BUT THE PARENTS FOR THE CHILDREN, then it's wrong for those 20 Churches as long as they are still very young to be laying up their financial and material resources including tithes and offerings for their parent Church, namely Church A.

Rather, Church A should lay up resources for her 20 children Churches because Paul noted: *... BUT THE PARENTS [ought to lay up] FOR THE CHILDREN"* (2 Corinthians 12:14 KJV).

But, a time arrives when those 20 young Churches grow up into adulthood, then at such time, they can give back to their parent Church A.

Occasionally, the children may support the parent(s) in some cases as the need arises, but that's not the rule; it's just an exception to the rule.

The rule is: *THE CHILDREN OUGHT NOT TO LAY UP FOR THE PARENTS, BUT THE PARENTS FOR THE CHILDREN.*

This rule also implies: *THE CHILDREN WHEN GROWN INTO ADULTHOOD OUGHT TO TAKE CARE OF THEIR PARENTS.*

You see, in the natural, parents should train their children until they grow into adulthood and become self-supporting without having need of parent craft and parental financial support.

Also, in the process of time, those children who have now grown into self-supporting adults should, in return, take good care of their parents from time to time.

*MALACHI, THE PROPHET ON OWNERSHIP OF TITHES*

Malachi 3:8-10 KJV
[8] Will a man rob *GOD*? Yet ye have robbed *ME*. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed *THEE? IN TITHES AND OFFERINGS.* [9] Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed *ME,* even this whole nation. [10] Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in *MINE* house, and prove *ME* now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

This Scripture above reveals that anyone who refuses to pay tithes and offerings is robbing God.

It does not say he's robbing the Church leaders. He's robbing God, the owner.

It does not say he's robbing the priests or prophets. He's stealing from God.

It does not say he's robbing the apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers. He's cheating God.

Look at the expressions such as the following as used in the Scripture above: *rob GOD,* *have robbed ME,* *robbed THEE?,* *IN TITHES AND OFFERINGS,* *robbed ME,* *that there may be meat in MINE house* and *prove *ME.*

*MOSES, THE PROPHET ON OWNERSHIP OF TITHES*

Leviticus 27:30, 32 GNT
30 *ONE TENTH* of all the produce of the land, whether grain or fruit, *BELONGS TO THE LORD.* 32 *ONE OF EVERY TEN* domestic animals *BELONGS TO THE LORD.* When the animals are counted, *EVERY TENTH ONE BELONGS TO THE LORD.*

30 *"ONE-TENTH* of what comes from the land, whether grain or fruit, is holy and *BELONGS TO THE LORD.* 32 *EVERY TENTH* head of cattle or sheep that you counted is holy and *BELONGS TO THE LORD.*

Similarly, the Scripture above shows that one-tenth (tithe) of all land produce (grain or fruit) as well as of domestic animals belong to the Lord, and not to any minister.

Therefore, the second reason why every believer should pay their tithes is that tithes belong to God!

I command every foul spirit [spirit of fear, spirit of unbelief, spirit of doubt, religious spirit, unforgiving spirit…] wanting to hinder me to stop in its evil operation in my life in Jesus’ name.
Thank you God for filling me with your Spirit in Jesus’ name (Amen).
