Double-Minded or Flexible?

by Tonja Taylor
3/20/2023 / Christian Living

For you shall go out [from the spiritual exile caused by sin and evil into the homeland] with joy and be led forth [by your Leader, the Lord Himself, and His word] with peace; the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.--Isaiah 55:12, AMPC

Sometimes when we are following the LORD, our paths will "suddenly" change. We must trust the LORD, and although we respect our spouses and other elders and those with spiritual authority in our lives, ultimately, we must follow The Holy Spirit of Truth Himself.

Others may judge us as double-minded, when we are really being flexible and obedient to follow the Holy Spirit, Who knows me better than I know myself, and sees the entirety of my life (past, present, future) at once; and thus knows the exact perfect Path I should take.

There have been many changes in my life through the years, and not all of them have been comfortable. However, the LORD is forever faithful and good (Jeremiah 29:11), and He always always always helps me to get to a better place in life, even when I miss it! He is so very patient and good, infinitely wise, and all-knowing about what is best for me, His precious daughter!

He feels the same way toward you, and has only your best interest in mind.

In these very dark days of this crazy world, you can (like me), have deep peace and abundant joy. You can live a gracious, fulfilled life that makes a positive difference for Christ to demonstrate His goodness to them, and help them see the real Jesus!

However, you must learn to correctly hear His voice and follow Him, no matter what others think.

As I have experienced recently, even anointed apostolic leadership can be wrong.

While we may disagree with such leaders, we must always respect them for their work in the LORD, and continue to pray for them.

None of us is perfect. Only Jesus, the LORD, the soon-coming, eternally-reigning King, is perfect!

Our job is to follow Him!

This is not to be taken lightly, however, Some decisions may require fasting, getting alone with God, and/or much prayer.

To me, staying in an attitude of prayer, which means talking to the LORD throughout the day (for He is with us always; inside us, when we have repented of our sins and received Christ Jesus as our Savior and LORD! Hallelujah!) is the best way to hear Him.

Getting rid of things that grieve or offend Him, listening to praise and worship music, and reading and listening to Bible-based preaching and teaching several times a week are tremendous and vital in helping us truly wash our souls (minds, wills, emotions) and think like God; hear His voice, and know His heart.

About a week ago, the Holy Spirit spoke to me upon waking: "The Prince of Peace is the Voice of Truth."

13 But when He, the Spirit of Truth (the Truth-giving Spirit) comes, He will guide you into all the Truth (the whole, full Truth). For He will not speak His own message [on His own authority]; but He will tell whatever He hears [from the Father; He will give the message that has been given to Him], and He will announce and declare to you the things that are to come [that will happen in the future].--John 16:13, AMPC

Amen and amen!

He has taught me through the years, that I must follow peace. By this, I mean a deep, abiding peace, not a temporary happiness or feeling that all is okay.

He also has taught me that, if my peace leaves (usually that is gradual), and it is not a fear thing (which He helps me recognize and rebuke and reject!), then I need to either not do something I'd planned to, or stop doing something I was doing.

5 Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and  mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. 6 In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths.--Proverbs 3:5-6, AMPC

He has been so very faithful to me--in spite of me--all these years! Even when we are unfaithful, He cannot be unfaithful, for He Himself is faithfulness--He is the Covenant God, Who will never break that blood-bought eternal agreement!

My covenant will I not break or profane, nor alter the thing that is gone out of My lips.--Psalm 89:34, AMPC

He is faithful, forever, and always leads us in right paths. He also warns us to not do something that would cause us harm.

However, He is a Gentleman (the Gentleman of all gentlemen!), and will never force Himself or His opinion on us. He loves us so much!

God is Love, and so merciful and gracious and faithful! He is the perfect loving Daddy, our Abba Father--once we have truly repented of our sin and received what the LORD Jesus, His Son, did for us on the cross by shedding His pure blood to pay for all our sin, over 2,000 years ago! Hallelujah!

6 While we were yet in weakness [powerless to help ourselves], at the fitting time Christ died for (in behalf of) the ungodly.  7 Now it is an extraordinary thing for one to give his life even for an upright man, though perhaps for a noble and lovable and generous benefactor someone might even dare to die.  8 But God shows and clearly proves His [own] love for us by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One) died for us.--Romans 5:6-8, AMPC

The enemy loves to condemn us, and make us think we're stupid, or foolish, or that God is mad at us, etc. etc., ad nauseum. However, by the help of the Holy Spirit, we keep turning back to the LORD, our loving Daddy, Who helps us seek Him and hear His voice, because we want to.

He also helps us understand that, when we trust Him, He is faithful to guide us. We may not understand all His ways, or why something happens (or doesn't) that we expected, but He helps us remember that our hope and expectations must come not from other people or circumstances or even ourselves, but from Him!

[For it is He] Who rescued and saved us from such a perilous death, and He will still rescue and save us; in and on Him we have set our hope (our joyful and confident expectation) that He will again deliver us [from danger and destruction and draw us to Himself],--2 Corinthians 1:10, AMPC

Once more Jesus addressed the crowd. He said, I am the Light of the world. He who follows Me will not be walking in the dark, but will have the Light which is Life.--John 8:12, AMPC

Ask the LORD to make you bold and courageous, willing to follow Him. He loves you and only will lead you in right paths. Ask Him to help you have His mind, to not be double-minded, but flexible; willing and obedient, to eat the good of the land! He will!

Then shall your light break forth like the morning, and your healing (your restoration and the power of a new life) shall spring forth speedily; your righteousness (your rightness, your justice, and your right relationship with God) shall go before you [conducting you to peace and prosperity], and the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard.--Isaiah 58:8, AMPC
