Repentance, A Need Of Everyone

by Olawale Ogunsola

[17]“Friends, I realize that what you and your leaders did to Jesus was done in ignorance.
[18]But God was fulfilling what all the prophets had foretold about the Messiah—that he must suffer these things.
[19]Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away.
[20]Then times of refreshment will come from the presence of the Lord, and he will again send you Jesus, your appointed Messiah." Acts 3.
In every relationship, there can be misunderstandings and wrongdoings. These affect the smooth running of the lovely affairs of such association. If care is not taken, any small misunderstanding or wrongdoing is big enough to bring any relationship to a sudden end.

That is why communication has to be employed. Which type of communication? This should be a soothing one that will end up in reconciliation and furtherance of the relationship.

To do this effectively, the wrongdoer must own up. He must agree that he is wrong and be sober for it. Apologies must be faithfully rendered to permanently dissolve the grudge.

As disclosed by the opening verses quoted earlier, times of refreshing will follow. This happens in every relationship including human relationship with God. He is always ready to forgive.

It is essential to state categorically that, everyone will repent of his sins, sooner or later.
Now, let us examine types of repentance available

Timely repentance;
2 Corinthians 6:1-2
[1]As God’s partners, we beg you not to accept this marvelous gift of God’s kindness and then ignore it.
[2]For God says,
“At just the right time, I heard you.
On the day of salvation, I helped you.” Indeed, the “right time” is now. Today is the day of salvation.

This means that repentance has a right time for it to have value. When it is not done at the right time, it will not yield the right results. When a wrongdoing is involved in your relationship with God, quick repentance must be brought in. Life is short and it is not in your control but in the hands of the One you have wronged. The earlier you repent the better for you.

Delay is dangerous, most especially when salvation is concerned. It doesn't take long before it becomes late.

The best words fit for the time of repentance in human Relationship with God is "today" and "now". Read the words of Jesus Christ in Luke 19:9-10
[9]Jesus responded, “Salvation has come to this home today, for this man has shown himself to be a true son of Abraham.
[10]For the Son of Man came to seek and save those who are lost.”

Devout reader, Kindly examine your life very well, where are you missing it in your relationship with the Lord? Tell the Holy Spirit to point out your sin(s) against the Lord and that He empower you to repent totally now. May the Lord help you in Jesus name.

Late Repentance.
Beloved, do you know that everyone will repent? Yes! Any untimely repentance will have endless regrets attached to it .
There is an appointed time for acceptable repentance. It can be carried out late to render it useless, Matthew 27:3-5.
Everyone will repent. It will either be at the right time, which is beneficial, or at the wrong time when it becomes of no value.
This was the case with Judas Ischariot, the disciple who betrayed Jesus. The Scriptures record,
"[3]When Judas, who had betrayed him, realized that Jesus had been condemned to die, he was filled with remorse. So he took the thirty pieces of silver back to the leading priests and the elders.
[4]“I have sinned,” he declared, “for I have betrayed an innocent man.”“What do we care?” they retorted. “That’s your problem.”
[5]Then Judas threw the silver coins down in the Temple and went out and hanged himself." Matthew 27.

Will you agree with me that this Apostle confessed and repented of his sins? Now, what benefits did he achieve from it? Nothing! This was so because regrets replaced benefits. Do you want to end your journey like Judas Ischariot? God forbid o!
Today is the day of Salvation, confess your sins and turn away from them and you will experience times of refreshment from the Lord your God.
Stay blessed and prepared for the coming of the Lord. Shalom!
