PERSONAL EVIDENCES
by linzy bruno
10/06/2022 / Bible Studies
As the writer of Hebrews so eloquently illustrates, inasmuch as we have faith in God, He will reveal His Truth to us in a highly personal manner. He confirms our faith in such evidences which provide the confidence that we are not leaning on empty laws and promises:
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1)
This is the epitome of what we call confirming "the evidence of things not seen" says it all. Our God wants to have a relationship with each one of His many children, due to His Great Love for us. For those who believe in Him and trust in His Word, He provides personal evidence/s; spiritual confidence that we are in His Presence when we pray, worship and/or commune with Him. He communicates through responding to prayer and providing assurance that He hears us and will answer our call on Him in accordance with His Perfect Timing, through a deep sense of personal knowledge or inner knowing. Not to mention a very distinct sense of His Presence.
In further pursuit of evidence, Jesus has promised to enable us in our weaknesses, as we read in 2Corinthians 12:9. And Jesus declares in John 15 that we must rely on Him in order to do anything worth doing:
“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5)
And Jesus has also made a way for us to hear Him. In the Psalms, king David paints a vivid picture that beautifully depicts God as our Shepherd in Psalm 23:1-6, thereby, we are His sheep. Moreover, Jesus said that His sheep hear His Voice in John 10:27.
And as it says in verse 3 of the aforementioned passage in Hebrews; if we understand, as best any human can, that HE made everything we see through His invisible Word and hear His Voice, and have that personal assurance that He hears us, that back and forth communication is the exact definition of a close personal relationship. Therefore, we are clearly afforded the amazing privilege of absolute confirmation that our faith is NOT of feign or debatable origin, but rather personal proof of His Existence.
Furthermore, He has promised His children, saying:
“Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.” in Deuteronomy 31:6.
Moreover, for the New Testament believer, Jesus has set us free from having to follow a cold list of rules and regulations, but rather has provided through His Sacrifice, personal convictions of right and wrong. He has written His Moral law on our hearts and expounded on them in great detail in His Gospel Sermons and Parables, for those finer intricacies; vital for even deeper understanding.
Also noteworthy, as Jesus has explained in Matthew 5:17, He has fulfilled God’s Law by perfectly meeting all the requirements of the Law and then leaving His Perfect Example for us. He has also proclaimed that to meet His Laws we actually have to come up higher morally speaking than the Commands of the Law of Moses. Take the commandment about not murdering your fellow man for example; Jesus said in Matthew 5:20-22 that it is a sin to even think about killing your brother. Because it is in your heart to do so, therefore, in your heart, you are guilty of murder. And in Matthew 5:27-28 Jesus says in regard to the Commandment of not committing adultery, that it’s a sin to even look at a woman in lust.
*NOTE: For every one of the Commandments, Jesus had something to say, except for keeping the sabbath. (Source: James Kaddis, Pastor & Prophecy teacher, You Tube, not a direct quote)
Also noteworthy, the writer of Hebrews has outlined a condensed list of the Doctrines of Christ in Hebrews 6:1-3: (Source: Ames Bible School)
“Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. And this we will do if God permits.”
NOTE: God does want us to be baptized, but baptism is not required for salvation. However, it is a show of salvation which is vital to the spread of the Gospel Message. Furthermore, baptism is for those old enough and wise enough to understand what it means and regard it properly.
The Law of Christ is not a list of rules but loving convictions of the conscience prompted by abiding faith in God through Christ and His Crucifixion. And when believers abide in the love God has imputed in their hearts, He gives them personal evidence/s of His Reality so all who love Him can trust in all they do, think and say in His Holy Name. And in response to that loving relationship, grow in our desire to please HIM, much like a child naturally craves to please his or her father.
And as we continue in our journey with Him; increasingly becoming more grounded in these personal evidences, we subsequently become more grounded in Him!
Hallelujah! Thanks be to GOD.
"Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My Voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me." (Revelation 3:20)
