What is sin really?

by Jack Vorster
3/27/2022 / Christian Living

Sin is not just a name for all the bad things you do in-between all the good things you do.

Sin is something that is attached to your entire being. It is referred to as your
NATURE OF SIN

Your nature of sin demands that you act out all the bad characteristics of that nature. A leopard cannot change its spots and neither can you shed that nature. You were born with it.

There is a penalty to pay for your nature of sin regardless of the fact that it was passed on to you from the place where it was founded – the Garden of Eden.

That penalty for your nature of sin is known as the WRATH of God - with eternal damnation as the culminating result. The penalty was paid for you on the Cross by God through Jesus Christ, who took God’s wrath, meant for you, upon Himself.

But God commended his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.” (Romans 5:8,9). (emphasis mine)

You were, therefore, SAVED from the WRATH of God scheduled for the day you die and for the last day of this age known as the day of the Lord.

Those who have received Jesus as Lord and Saviour are now resting, having been saved from His WRATH to come.

And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,
In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;” (2Thess. 1:7-9)

Even if you’ve put your faith and trust in what Jesus did for you, you will still keep on sinning, but you have the privilege of receiving forgiveness should you confess your transgressions to God.

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1John 1:8,9)

With the help of the Holy Spirit you will grow in Christ, sinning less and less and becoming more and more conformed to the image of Christ.
