A Little Scary, But a Lot Exciting
by Tonja Taylor
9/23/2021 / Christian Living
About 20 years ago, I heard a preacher say. "Real faith is real movement into the undefined."
Change is part of life, and we can agree with God for His Plans (Jeremiah 29:11) for us. We can also ask Him to continue to teach us His ways, so we can clearly discern between what is from Him, and what is not.
Utlimately, we trust Him. He is our eternal, forever faithful and loving Father Who has only the best in mind for us. Great is His mercy and faithfulness!
Amen and amen. So when we encounter change--especially big change--it's the details we don't know that can seem a bit scary. But, as the LORD showed me to put in the book series--and my life!--when a new situation comes up, we can say it's "a little scary, but a lot exciting."
We can choose to look at life in Christ as an adventure!
This is part of Zoe life (John 10:10), that Jesus died to give us. After all, most of us like sweet surprises, don't we? Yes! The LORD has many "sweet suddenlies" ahead for us, just like we love to delight our children and other loved ones with those.
It's the bad suddenlies we don't like (that's where the fear tries to come, because we're not sure what's going to happen). We can blame the enemy and our flesh for those.
Just by remembering a very few times in our lives, we can always know that our faithful, wonderful, loving Daddy God will take that junk the enemy sends and work it for good, for us who love God and are the called according to His purpose! That's Romans 8:28, and by the way, we are all, as Beliievers, called to a wonderful life of service and success for Him!
The bottom line is--as the LORD revealed to me one day--we can totally trust God, for He watches over us every moment, including during the night! We trust that, when we go to sleep, we will wake up and be safe. That is because He is good and faithful forever, and He never sleeps nor slumbers, but is monitoring us in love every moment! Great is His faithfulness! He is all good!
So we ask the LORD to help us be more aware of fear when it tries to attack us; it either tries to distract us from what God is doing and has for us, or tries to steal our joy in the LORD, or both. But far greater is King Jesus, the Courageous and Victorious One, in us, than the defeated enemy--the fearful one--who is in the earth (I John 4:4)!
This doesn't mean we deny the feelings of fear, but that we resist them, for fear is always of the enemy. The Spirit of the LORD makes us bold and courageous, as II Timothy 1:17 (AMPC), says: For God did not give us a spirit of timidity (of cowardice, of craven and cringing and fawning fear), but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of calm and well-balanced mind and discipline and self-control."
Jesus is the Prince of Peace, and also our victorious, glorious Warrior, Jehovah Nissi. He is so much more, but even just thinking on those two things can get rid of fear in your life and make you more bold to trust Him!
If you really think about it, it's been God's faithful, nail-pierced Hand; His Hesed, eternal Love for you that has created you, protected you, guided you, taught you, healed you, delivered you, provided for you, freed you, and just blessed you daily in every other way you can think of (for everything good is form God, Who is all good (Mark 10:18)!
When fear (which is always of the devil!) rises up, remember (out loud is great!) the times God has rescued you from wrong situations, and provided for you, and comforted you, and strengthened you, and given to you money and material provisions, and more. Tell yourself and the devil how good God has been to you, and how you know He's always going to be good! Then get the Word of God and use it as the Sword of the LORD that it is against the lies of the enemy!
Here are just a few to get you started. Put your name in the Scripture, for the Bible was written for you!
Also David told Solomon his son, Be strong and courageous, and do it. Fear not, be not dismayed, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail or forsake you until you have finished all the work for the service of the house of the Lord.--I Chronicles 28:20, AMPC
..and be strong, alert, and courageous, all you people of the land, says the Lord, and work! For I am with you, says the Lord of hosts.--Haggai 2:4, AMPC
I write to you, fathers, because you have come to know (recognize, be conscious of, and understand) Him Who [has existed] from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you are strong and vigorous, and the Word of God is [always] abiding in you (in your hearts), and you have been victorious over the wicked one.--I John 2:14, AMPC
Rejoice in the Lord always [delight, gladden yourselves in Him]; again I say, Rejoice!--Philippians 4:4
Ask the LORD to lead you to many more Scriptures that you can read and write and speak, and as you do, your mind will be transformed to think like Him. You will no longer be afraid, because your love and trust for Him will displace that junk. You will grow strong and very courageous, because your faith (trust in God) will be activated and grow, all the more as you hear and read and watch The Word daily!
Go for it! It just gets better from here!
