Parental Influence 2

by Olawale Ogunsola

"I conceived him in sorrow". Leah
Roles played by women on earth is not only great but also significant. Adam summarized the roles and its significance this way,
"And Adam called his wife's name Eve because she was the mother of all living." Genesis 3:20. King James Version.

This simply defines the multiple roles assigned by God to every woman. This roles include bringing forth children to fulfill "Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it..." Gen 1:28.

What goes into carrying out this significant roles are many. It involves spiritual, emotional and physical exercises and factors. Each of this aspect has a direct influence on the new person coming into the world. Note the words of the Scriptures in Genesis chapter five in verse three this way, "And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, and after his image,..."

Because every wife is the remnant of her husband, (Malachi 2:15), that is why I am bold to say that the word "Adam" includes Eve in it. Certain versions of the Holy Scriptures many times uses human beings instead of Adam.

As from that times, parents have always been influencing their children. This affects their conduct, words and thoughts. Every parent does this intentionally or otherwise.

In I Chronicles 4:9,we read, "And Jabez was more honorable than his brethren : and his mother called his name Jabez ;, saying, because I bare him with sorrow:"

Jabez's mother's emotional experience caused her to name her son Jabez because she was sorrowful by that time.

Do you know that such experience was not peculiar to Jabez's mother. There are other women in her shoes.

There was a woman in the Holy Bible whose sorrowful heart was not on record. If given the opportunity her words would run like this "I conceived him with sorrow"

Who was this woman and what happened?

Leah was the woman, she was a daughter of Laban a brother to Rebecca, Jacob's mother. Jacob came to sojourn in the house of his uncle for a season. He served him for twenty one years. At the beginning of his service, he chose to serve Laban for seven years to marry his second daughter, Rachel.

At the end of the seventh year, Leah was given to Jacob instead of Rachel who he bagarined for. Full details are contained in Genesis chapter twenty - nine from verses ten to thirty-five.

Parental Influence begins from the time of copulation, day or night. In the evening after the marriage feast, Leah was given to Jacob. The joy of Jacob became sour on seeing that it was Leah who he never loved. He complained to his father-in-law who told him,
"It must not be done in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn,"verse 26. KJV.

Jacob resigned to his fate because there was nothing he could do. Can you imagine what your mood will be if you are given a girl you never love or a young man who never loves you, as the case may be?

Every copulation that took place between Jacob and Leah which resulted in the birth of Reuben was done in bitterness of heart. What do you expect the outcome to be? Consider the status of Reuben in destiny as his father proclaimed it in Gen 49:3.
"Reuben, thou art my firstborn, my might, and the beginning of my strength, the excellency of dignity, and the excellency of power." King James Version (KJV).

This man with "excellence" was negatively influenced by parental circumstances on which he had no control. He could not attain the set status in destiny. His father further said,
"unstable as water, thou shalt not excel ; because thou wentest up to thy father's bed, thou defiledest thou it ; he went up to my couch" verse 4.

The question now arises, "What made Reuben to become unstable as water?"

Then it is perlinent also to ask, "Was the source of his life as water stable?" Both parents were of unstable minds during copulation. The father's love was not with his mother but with Rachel. He did not concentrate on Leah during copulation. The mother was also wandering between two opinions thinking will he become my lover later? Will I be able to win his love or not? " Leah could not attain her desire to enter Jacob's heart because she later resigned to" Now will I praise the Lord. " That was when Judah, the fourth child was born.

My beloved reader, let your attention be called to the truth that the atmosphere that surrounds the circumstances that led to the conception of a child plays significant roles in his life. Therefore watch your thoughts, words and deeds anytime you purpose to bring forth a child into the world. If Leah had got opportunity to express her mind on Reuben becoming "unstable as water" she will not mince words to say "I conceived him in sorrow."
Note: KJV means King James Version of the Holy Bible.
NOTE FOR SALVATION
"The father loves the Son and has put everything into his hands.
And anyone who believes in God's Son has eternal life. Anyone who doesn't
obey the Son will never experience eternal life but remain under God's
angry judgment" John 3:35-36
Stay blessed and prepared for the coming of the Lord which imminent
