In The Assembly Of God's People

In the assembly of God's people, there are several types of groups that can be found. There are several factors that can be considered to group them. For the purpose of this write-up, let us briefly consider three categories of people who can not be missed in almost all assemblies of God's people.

 

The first to be found, and I think the best, is the people of God themselves. This group are those who are the real people who are God's. They know their God. Their God knows them by name. He calls this group, "My people" and He is always ready to do them good, anytime and anywhere. This was the case with the Jews in bondage in the land of Egypt. God told Moses when he was taking care of his father's-in-law flock,
"I have surely seen the oppression of MY PEOPLE who are in Egypt,
and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters, for I know their sorrows.
so I have come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, to
bring them up from that land to a good and large land, to a land flowing with milk
and honey,... " Exodus 3:7-8 (capitals mine).

 

God, the Creator of heaven and earth, is concerned about the welfare of those who are His. He knows their sorrows. He sees their oppression. He hears their cries. Halleluia! He comes down to deliver them out of the hand of all those who use their power and authority to trouble them. He always has better alternative provision for them. He is a caring God who will not allow His own people who abide in Him to suffer for long, without any solution.

 

He told His people, "I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage." Deuteronomy 5:6.
He also referred to them as "My people" in Exodus 3:10. This is the beauty of having God as your own God. As you say "My God!", He calls you "My son!".

 

The second group of people who emerge from God's people are the Minister's people. This is degradation of a great order. It is going down the drain. Do you know that God knows them too? This category of people are referred to any time He speaks of them to His Minister, as YOUR PEOPLE. An instance is contained in the second book of Moses called Exodus in chapter thirty-two and in verse seven thus,
"And the Lord said to Moses (representing all ministers of the Gospel today),
" Go get down! For YOUR PEOPLE whom you brought out of the land of Egypt have corrupted themselves. "

 

How soon do people of God become a people to ministers of God? Those who fail to do according to His will are at risk of going a little lower down the ladder of Godliness. It is not that God had absolutely rejected them but they are no longer at the same level where He can call them MY PEOPLE and they can call Him "MY GOD".

 

What is the major cause of lower level journey? Corruption! God is an incorruptible God and cannot tolerate corruption at all. So, any of His people who corrupts His way before Him runs the risk of smearing his relationship with his Maker. Such person or people can be reffered to as "a stiff-necked people" (Exodus 32:9).

 

The Lord allows the minister to intercede for them to restore the broken relationship between God and His people. When a faithful and obedient Minister comes in to stand in the gap, God has mercy on the group and He relents in his decision to bring them into judgment, condemnation and destruction. It is walking in a dangerous terrain as a Minister's people. Apostle Paul lamented, "Now I say this, that each of you says," I am of Paul " or" I am of Apollos " or" I am of Cephas, " I am of Christ." I Cor 1:12. Whereas, the best is for all saints to be Christ's. May God help us.

 

The third group in the assembly of God's People are "THE PEOPLE". This group have gone a little lower down the ladder of Godliness. They have gone below the level at which any minister can intercede for them. God may have told them:
"Do not worry about the people".

God had made up His mind to destroy them at the right and appointed time. You can read about God, Saul King of Israel and Prophet Samuel in I Samuel 16:1 verse 14 discloses,
"But the spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and a distressing spirit from the Lord troubled him."

 

He was in this state for thirty eight years until he perished in the war front in I Sam 31:6.

 

The same befell his fore-fathers who failed to follow God intimately in the wilderness. God declared about them and acted on His declaration,
"because all those men who have seen My glory and the signs which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have put Me to the test now these ten times and have not heeded My voice, they certainly, shall not see the land..." Num 14:22-23a.

 

Which of these category do you belong to? Do you follow God intimately to be on the safe zone or on the slippery land of being a Minister's people or on the irreparable terrain of receiving God's judgment? Let me not fail to tell you that King Saul remained a king for thirty-eight years after rejection by God. Not only this, those who complained against God in the wilderness did not die immediately but died one after the other for forty-years. Therefore, return to and remain with your God today and forever.
