Ways to Set Your Mind Back on God and Get the Victory!

These can be very tough times, even for Believers in Christ. But the the Spirit of the LORD Jesus and His Word, the Bible, is the victory for us--our answer!
I personally have used these strategies for years, and although this is a partial list of how to find tools and strategies to get victory in the LORD!
It helps to hear others--even when it seems we could never get where they are. So going to online sites and radio stations that have Bible-based teaching, preaching, and music can only help you. If you don't want to hear it clearly, you can turn it down very low so that you may not hear it consciously, but the power of God through the Word in the preaching, teaching, and worship is still going into the atmosphere around you!
Not only are the music and preaching and teaching tools to build your confidence in the fact that GOD IS FOR YOU--or He never would have sent Jesus His Son to rescue us!--but the DJs on the Christian stations are often funny, light-hearted, and there to pray for you. Most of them have online forms for you to send prayer requests, and you can also usually call and talk to an ordained pastor who will personally counsel and pray for you--free of charge!
With every part of life, we have to learn to make the right choices. God's ways may be mysterious to you overall, and none of us will ever have the whole picture of His multi-faceted wisdom. But choosing music and other broadcasts, books, magazines, and television shows that are not against His Word--and much better, that openly proclaim His Word--will change your life for good.
Growing in the LORD--and actually starting to desire the things of God over a regular TV show usually is a process. Choosing the things of God day after day is a form of practice. Just like with anything we want to be good at, we practice.
But just like when we truly practice things--do them over and over--and, the more we practice, the better we get, and then we start enjoying things more because, the more we practice, the easier it gets--when we practice living our lives according to the Bible, we start enjoying it more, and things get easier in some ways, at least. Then, we start realizing how following God and His ways are truly beneficial to us.
We start preferring the ways of our Father God (as long as we have received His Son, the LORD Jesus Christ, as our Savior and LORD, Who died on the cross to pay for our sins, so we could be forgiven.), and realizing that the God life (Zoe; John 10:10) is the life we have always truly wanted!
We'd like to be able to handle things by ourselves, and often we can (between us and God), but sometimes we just need another human Christian to reach out to!
There are many excellent versions of the Bible, worship songs, and sermons online. You can ask God, Who loves you and only wants the best for you, to guide you by His Spirit. His Spirit is the Spirit of Truth and will always lead you in paths of righteousness to help you (Psalm 23). When you watch or listen, you may not feel anything, for faith and choices are not feelings, and sometimes you just have to do the right thing whether you feel like it or not (That is what "discipline" means, as in, "We have not been given the spirit of fear, but power, and love, and self-discipline (a sound mind)." (2 Tim. 1:7)
JESUS IS OUR BLESSED HOPE!! He is the Light, no matter how dark things are!
Another thing that really helps is reading in the Bible, especially the books of Psalms and I and II and III John, and otherwise of course--wherever the LORD leads you! He knows you better than you will ever know yourself, and He knows exactly where you are, what you're feeling--for He sees you every moment and watches over you--including while you're sleeping!
So, you may not think you're hearing from God, but I promise you this: If you ask the LORD to help you hear and obey Him, He will! When we pray in His will, we have what we ask, for He hears (and answers!) us! That is in I John 5:14-15:
14 This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him. --NASB
The LORD has helped me through the decades to worship, pray, and put the Word in my mind every day, and often repeat it out my mouth while I'm looking at it--just like we learn another language or something. The more of the Word that gets in us, the more the junk is washed out of us. Praise God, the Bible is a LIVING BOOK, full of the Spirit of God!! Hallelujah!!
I also have many Scriptures posted in various places in my house--from my mirror in the bathroom, to the inside of some cabinets in the kitchen (like where my supplements are, etc.), to on the walls in my office, and even in my bedroom. I carry Scripture cards in my billfold, and have printed out sheets of them and put them in my car, so that if I'm at at red light or stuck in traffic, I have the Word to read (while listening to online worship or Christian radio, or good teaching/preaching in the car too).
Being thankful for all the good in our lives is very powerful, too. God even commands us to be thankful; not for Him, but for us! Being thankful for all the good things in our lives (and there are always many things in our lives to be thankful for, although the enemy tries to make us forget them. But the Holy Spirit Who knows all things can help us remember them. Ask Him! He will!) is a form of "setting our minds on things above." And the more thankful we are, the happier and more joyful we are!
1 Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth. 2 Serve the LORD with gladness; come into His presence with joyful songs. 3. Know that the LORD is God. It is He who made us, and we are His; we are His people, and the sheep of His pasture. 4 Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks to Him and bless His name. 5 For the LORD is good, and His loving devotion endures forever; His faithfulness continues to all generations.--Psalm 100, Berean Study Bible
Another thing the LORD uses to help us be victorious Christians is humor! The LORD often directs us to just LAUGH to get our minds thinking on other things! He Himself has a great sense of humor, and good, clean humor is a refreshing thing for us! You can do an internet search for "clean humor" or "Christian humor." You still need to ask the LORD for wisdom, because not everything that calls itself "Christian" or "clean" really is, but the LORD will guide you.
I used to watch and listen to and read many things that seemed funny then, but, the closer I grow to God, the more I realize they are really just tacky and rude. However, there are many things available that can help you laugh, and that will bring you both physical and mental relief, and help you set your mind back on good things--and God is all good, and what He does is all good!
8-9 You never saw him, yet you love him. You still don’t see him, yet you trust him—with laughter and singing. Because you kept on believing, you’ll get what you’re looking forward to: total salvation.-- I Peter 1:8, The Message
Reading the Scriptures --even one, that I think on through the day--and speaking them out loud--has truly washed and healed and SAVED my mind, and has been healing my heart (IT IS A PROCESS!! Sometimes there is SO MUCH JUNK in our lives from all the MESS that's happened, that our hearts can be really hurt, really broken. BUT THERE IS GREAT HOPE FOR PEACE AND RESTORATION--ONLY through the Spirit of God and His Word, as you know!)
In addition, just bursting out singing, is a great way to break junky thoughts off of you and start feeling glad! Sing along with worship! Make your own songs to Him! Sing silly songs! There is something very powerful about hearing yourself sing, and the LORD inhabits the praise of His people!
Yet I know that you are most holy; it’s indisputable. You are God-Enthroned, surrounded with songs, living among the shouts of praise of your princely people. --Psalm 22:3, The Passion Translation
Another way to get your mind on God is to partner with Him in creating something--whether it is a painting, a building, a garden, a meal, a dress, a book, a sculpture, a dance, a song--when Elohim Who created you and me and all good things flows through us, we renew the process of "wonder"--that childlike amazement at what God the LORD has done! When you create, you are God-like. Ask Him to create through you, and even draw you to new ways to create!
Any or all of these strategies can help you draw closer to God, get your mind back on Him, and become victorious in every area of life! When you do that, you shine for Him, and others are drawn to Him; and that, my dear, is why every Believer is on the planet!
The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, and whoever captures souls is wise.--Proverbs 11:30, ESV
