THE CARNAL ANTIDOTE
by linzy bruno
2/18/2021 / Christian Living
"And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God." (Romans 12:2)
As the centuries creep by, the increase in technology grows exponentially, which in turn increases the many distractions in which mankind must contend. And now, with all the latest 'hubub,' the propensity to become far-sighted, rather than remain fixed on the narrow path (John 14:6) is more pronounced than ever. Flying high above our circumstances (Isaiah 40:31) and thus, resisting the many seductions this world has to offer has never been more challenging, but is certainly not impossible, it just takes a greater degree of focus.
Notwithstanding, it is impossible to live in this world, in these fleshly bodies completely free from carnality; we would have to cease in being human. However this condition does not have to lead believers into utter spiritual dullness; numbing the conscience into a debilitating spiritual Coma.....But did you know you can bring God into everything you do?
"And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him." (Colossians 3:17)
Don't let the blissful ignorance of carnality lead you further and further away from your Lord.
The only way to fight against this risky predicament is to work purposefully with God's Spirit, and developing the fruits of the spirit is a good place to start:
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law." (Galatians 5:22-23)
Other Ways to Fight:
--Bring God into your leisure time; choose godly entertainment when possible and simply bring Him into all you do and do all things in thanksgiving unto Him (Colossians 3:17)
STAYING FOCUSED ON HIM in everything you do is key...
--Build up your spiritual muscles; start a Bible study or personal Bible study; cyberly if necessary and try memorizing on a few verses you can later meditate on during the day
--Develop your relationship with Him through daily prayer and fellowship
--Listen for His Voice for His Perfect Plan
--Discover true joy; put others first and keep God above all else. Taking your mind off yourself will lift your mood above your circumstances
--Increase in generosity and giving. A cheerful giver keeps greed and selfishness at bay--Find a Bible-based church where you can fellowship with like-minded believers; avoiding the New Age trend (And even if there are no traditional churches in your area, choose your friends wisely; try to find fellow believers--be careful who you let into your inner circle)
--Thank God for every blessing and you will feel 10 feet tall!
The Apostle Paul carefully discouraged carnality among his flock, as is recorded in Romans 8:6-8--
"For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God."
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." (2Corinthians 5:17)
