LEARN TO LEAN

by linzy bruno

"The Lord helps those who help themselves" is not an untrue statement, however, this catchy phrase is misleading. The truth is God would have it that we lean on Him in everything we do. Although we do indeed have a part and God will not do our part for us, it's crucial to learn how to lean on Him for everything, even in doing our part. The Scriptures teach us to abide in Him, to wait on Him, and to trust in Him in all things, not just some things, but in everything:

"Open the gates, That the righteous nation which keeps the truth may enter in. You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You. Trust in the Lord forever, For YAH, the LORD is everlasting strength." (Isaiah 26:2-4)

"Do all things before Him and make everything about Him" should be our most popular catch phrase, because as Jesus Himself said:

“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing." (John 15:5)

OTHER PERTINENT SCRIPTURE:

"And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me." (2Corinthians 12:9)

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths." (Proverbs 3:5-6)

"These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." (John 16:33)

"But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint." (Isaiah 40:31)

"My soul, wait silently for God alone, For my expectation is from Him. He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory; The rock of my strength, And my refuge, is in God." (Psalm 62:5-7)

"He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him." (John 6:56)

"He must increase, but I must decrease." (John 3:30)

THEREFORE, to all those who have been trusting in the self through the aforementioned saying regarding autonomy and independence, take another look into the Scripture; see for yourself what God has to say on this important subject....
