The Gates of Hell will Not Prevail

Entryways

“A gate or gateway is a point of entry to a space which is enclosed by walls. Gates may prevent or control the entry or exit of individuals, any means of entrance or access, a movable barrier, usually hinged.”

Jesus says the gates of hell will not prevail against the church. ^“And I say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades (death) will not overpower it [by preventing the resurrection of the Christ].I will give you the keys (authority) of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind [forbid, declare to be improper and unlawful] on earth will have [already] been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose [permit, declare lawful] on earth will have [already] been loosed in heaven” (Matthew 16:18-19 AMP)

We have the authority to bind and loose on earth, which means we can bind what we do not want and loose what we do want. For example: I bind any corruption in our government all the way down to the city level and I loose the Holy Spirit to bring about justice and freedom.

I believe the word gates used in Matthew 16 is used metaphorically to signify any portal or entrance used for wickedness. It is used for counsels, designs, conspiracies, or evil purposes. But gates in general are not all evil or corrupt because we as believers are also referred to as “gates” or portals for the Holy Spirit to use to win the battle, again this is metaphorical.

“Lift up your heads, O gates, And be lifted up, ancient doors, That the King of glory may come in. Who is the King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, The Lord mighty in battle.” (Psalm 24:7-8)

It is a battle cry! And JESUS is the Rock of Ages. It is important for the church to unify and stand together in this fight, for we are the body of Christ and Jesus is the head. But ultimately the battle is the Lord’s.

The word "gates," is also used to signify authority or leadership. “Her husband is known in the [city’s] gates, when he sits among the elders of the land.” (Proverbs 31:23)

I believe gates are also referring to the gatekeepers or those who stand and watch what is happening and alert others. Remembering that there is both a good and bad side, but the good side wins. It is imperative to understand that prayer is mandatory because our weapons are not carnal but spiritual.

Our Weapons

“For though we walk in the flesh [as mortal men], we are not carrying on our [spiritual] warfare according to the flesh and using the weapons of man. The weapons of our warfare are not physical [weapons of flesh and blood]. Our weapons are divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses.” (2 Corinthians 10:3-4, AMP)

Jesus has given his church the authority to tread upon the serpent and the scorpion and nothing in anyway should harm us. In the times that we are living in it feels like darkness is surrounding us and overcoming us, but the Lord promised that we would have authority because he has the keys to death and Hades.

“Listen carefully: I have given you authority [that you now possess] to tread on serpents and scorpions, and [the ability to exercise authority] over all the power of the enemy (Satan); and nothing will [in any way] harm you. Nevertheless, do not rejoice at this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are recorded in heaven.” (Luke 10:19-20, AMP)

The Cost

In Matthew 16:24 Jesus talks about the costly price of discipleship. That we will have to lay down our own selfish interests and take up our cross, which means there will be suffering because as the Antichrist hated Jesus, so will those influenced by this evil spirit hate us.

The Lord reminds us that whoever would save their life here in this world will eventually die and lose their life, but he who loses their life for Christ sake will have eternal reward. The Scripture goes on to say that what good is it for a man to gain the whole world of fame and fortune but lose his soul.

“Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory and majesty of His Father with His angels, and then He will repay each one in accordance with what he has done.” (Matthew 16:26-27)

Matthew 16: 19 Amplified says it this way:

“I will give you the keys (authority) of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you bind [forbid, declare to be improper and unlawful] on earth will have [already] been bound in heaven, and whatever you loose [permit, declare lawful] on earth will have [already] been loosed in heaven.”

The spirit of Antichrist works through certain individuals especially those people who have a lot of power in the world. Interestingly, I was thinking about how I did not trust Bill Gates and his desire for mandatory Covid-19 vaccines because his vaccines have a history of killing people. Do the research. That is when the Holy Spirit whispered to me, “The gates of hell will not prevail against the church.” Also, one of the signs of the Antichrist is that this, yet to be revealed person, will have economic control. Does that ring any bells? Believers who are empowered by the Holy Spirit will not be overcome by the enemy.

Christ the Conqueror

^“And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who was riding it is called Faithful and True (trustworthy, loyal, incorruptible, steady), and in righteousness He judges and wages war [on the rebellious nations]. His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many royal crowns; and He has a name inscribed [on Him] which no one knows or understands except Himself. He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. And the armies of heaven, dressed in fine linen, [dazzling] white and clean, followed Him on white horses. From His mouth comes a sharp sword (His word) with which He may strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He will tread the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty [in judgment of the rebellious world]. And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name inscribed, “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”

Doom of the Beast

“Then I saw a single angel standing in the sun, and with a loud voice he shouted to all the birds that fly in midheaven, saying, “Come, gather together for the great supper of God, so that you may feast on the flesh of kings, the flesh of commanders, the flesh of powerful and mighty men, the flesh of horses and of those who sit on them, and the flesh of all humanity, both free men and slaves, both small and great [in a complete conquest of evil].”

Then I saw the beast and the kings and political leaders of the earth with their armies gathered to make war against Him who is mounted on the [white] horse and against His army. And the beast (Antichrist) was seized and overpowered, and with him the false prophet who, in his presence, had performed [amazing] signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image; these two were hurled alive into the lake of fire which blazes with brimstone. And the rest were killed with the sword which came from the mouth of Him who sat on the horse, and all the birds fed ravenously and gorged themselves with their flesh.” (Revelation 19:11 -21, AMP)
