CHASTENING, AFFLICTIONS AND THE REPROOFS OF LIFE
by Vern Yamane
4/21/2020 / Christian Living
CHASTENING OR DISCIPLINING IS PART OF GROWING UP.
Hebrews 12:10-11 (KJV) 10 For they verily for a few days CHASTENED us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. 11 Now no CHASTENING for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
AFFLICTIONS KEEP US CLOSE TO THE SHEPHERD AND GIVE US UNDERSTANDING OF GOD'S WORD
AFFLICTIONS are not pleasant but necessary. They are God's Expression of God's Love towards us
Psalm 119:67 (KJV) 67 Before I was AFFLICTED I went astray: but now have I kept thy word.
Psalm 119:71 (KJV) 71 It is good for me that I have been AFFLICTED; that I might learn thy statutes
A reproof is called counsel, instruction, knowledge, correction, understanding, stripe and a rod that is given to all those who wish to life to the fullest. It is called the reproof of life.
Proverbs 1:3 (KJV) To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;
Proverbs 1:25 (KJV) But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my REPROOF:
Proverbs 1:30 (KJV) They would none of my counsel: they despised all my REPROOF.
Proverbs 5:12 (KJV) And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised REPROOF;
Proverbs 6:23 (KJV) For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and REPROOFs of instruction are the way of life:
Proverbs 10:17 (KJV) He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction: but he that refuseth REPROOF erreth.
Proverbs 12:1(KJV) Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth REPROOF is brutish. Proverbs 13:18 (KJV) Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth REPROOF shall be honoured.
Proverbs 15:5 (KJV) A fool despiseth his father's instruction: but he that regardeth REPROOF is prudent.
Proverbs 15:10 (KJV) Correction is grievous unto him that forsaketh the way: and he that hateth REPROOF shall die.
Proverbs 17:10 (KJV) A REPROOF entereth more into a wise man than an hundred stripes into a fool.
Proverbs 29:15 (KJV) the rod and REPROOF give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.
OUR AFFLICTIONS are for a moment and have consequences and ramifications that are ETERNAL
2 Corinthians 4:17-18 (KJV) 17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;
18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
