Unlimited Power of Your Words

by Tonja Taylor
12/31/2019 / Christian Living

Most people don't understand how their lives--and especially their children's!--are impacted by what they say.

We have incredible power. Our words can be weapons that destroy, or wonderful tools that build our children, our spouses, our friends, and our futures.

It has been proven by many experts that words have the power of self-fulfillment. Words are heard, not only via voice, but in our brains as we read them, and words can stay in our subconsciouses and affect our thoughts, emotions, and actions, for the entirety of our lives--for good or bad.

Truly, words start in our heart, for our thoughts--especially what we meditate, which means to think about something and keep thinking about it--shape our words. Our thoughts, our beliefs, affect what we say, whether we realize it or not.

The LORD says, in Proverbs 23:7, "As a man thinks in his heart, so is he."

I have personally found the Bible to be what most positively empowers my thoughts to produce the words that produce life, renewal, and positive productivity in myself, my child, my husband, and those in my circle of influence.

I have discovered an interesting phenomenon: the more I use my words to build people, the more people are drawn to me to build. So it follows that, the more I harness my words for positive purposes, the more positive I am making my world!

Salespeople often say that they are just six people away from knowing everyone, citing the relationship among people who know people who know more people and so on.

As I mentor women throughout the world via internet, I am often told that my words were just what (the reader) needed to hear and are printed out to be read again. Add to that the light-speed of the internet and cell phones that most people in the world use, and I believe it is safe to say that literally our words affect the world.

Each of us must make our own decisions as to what influences we welcome into our lives, but we can be assured that whatever source we choose will influence our hearts, which will influence our words, which will flow out of us to influence our children, and thus our worlds.

Over the past six years, I have seen the remarkable difference that speaking positive words to my child has made in her life. She is now 11. She is confident, bold, and free, which, because of many wrong words spoken to me and about me, was not the way I grew up. But my daughter is respectful and (almost always, although sometimes with a bit of prodding) obedient.

She is also very articulate and lately has begun using words that astound me. She loves to read, and she likes to write. And where she once was too shy to record her voice, now she enjoys hearing her own words as she records them on the audio CD to bless others. She is already use the power of her words to positively impact the lives of people important to her.

I will continue, every day, to bless my daughter--not only with the Word of God, but with other encouragements that affirm and celebrate who she is. There is no one like her in the universe, nor has there been; and there never will be. She is here for a special purpose, as are we all.

I choose to be proactive in helping her to develop to her full potential, by speaking the right words not only to her, but about her--even when she is not present! For words, once spoken, assume a power of their own. According to the Hebrew, words become things!

As I have learned to purposely harness my words, which often involves not saying certain things that would cause harm, I have discovered that this exercise in self-control has made me a better person. When I choose to exercise the great liberty and power of speaking positive words on purpose, I know that I am a catalyst for positive change.

May we all choose to use this unlimited power of words to affect our world for good!
