Writing a Vision for Your Life
by stephanie reck
9/23/2019 / Christian Living
Do you know that God has a vision for your life and that He wants you to fulfill it? You were created for a purpose, and God has strategically designed you to fulfill this purpose. This is why you have the skills, talents and gifts that you do, as well as your life experiences.
What does vision mean?
The state of being able to see. The ability to think about or plan the future with imagination or wisdom.
And the Lord answered me: “Write your vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.” Habakkuk 2:2
What can be learned from Habakkuk in the Bible about writing a vision for your life?
- Habakkuk had to see the vision. You need to see yourself accomplishing or achieving whatever God has placed upon you to. Picture in your mind what it would be like to have your purpose fulfilled.
- Habakkuk wrote down on a tablet the vision he saw. He first saw himself accomplishing the vison and then he wrote it out plainly. Write down your vision and make it plain, in other words be as detailed as possible and then place somewhere that you can see daily.
Writing your vision out helps you stay focused instead of wandering aimlessly. Moving the idea from your mind to paper creates a physical representation what is to come. You’re writing your vision by faith. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1). You will need faith to write out your vision as you may look to your current situation and think, “That’s impossible!”
Don’t be afraid of what God will have you to write, it may seem too big or impossible. God is asking you to trust and believe Him that He can do whatever He shows you.
Writing out your vison will help when the enemy comes to defeat, discourage and distract you. You will be able to take a look at your vision and remember what you have been called to do.
If you don’t know your vision for your life, ask God to reveal this to you. Look for and anticipate His answer. Get still before God to hear Him, this means cut out all the distractions.
- Sometimes we have to lay down our plans to receive His plans for our lives.
- Ask God to give you a vision for not only your life but your marriage and children.
- When you write down your vision, write it in present tense, as if it already happened.
- Be as detailed as possible when you write your vision.
- Do not rush your vision. Don’t force the plans, but wait on God’s timing. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but in the end it will speak, and it will not lie, though it tarries, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry (Habakkuk 2:3).

Reflect and respond:
- When will you write down your vision? Make a goal to do so.
- What distractions do you need to cut out so that you can hear God?
- What prevents you from writing down your vision?
