Jesus the high priest from the tribe of Judah.
There are many people who claim that the New Testament church are still under the Levitical law. I have written many different writings showing this to be incorrect however I have decided to write this short writing focusing on just one single point that proves that the old Levitical law most commonly known as the Law of Moses has indeed not only passed but that if the law remains then this causes a major problem in the Bible as Jesus could NOT be the high priest.
If you ask those same people who argue that the law remains in place today if Jesus, the Messiah, is their high priest most will answer yes Jesus is their high priest.
It's pretty hard to argue against the fact that Jesus is the high priest even for those that say we are under the law as the Bible very clearly states that Jesus IS the High priest.
Hebrews 4-14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
However under the law ONLY Levites could be priests
Deuteronomy 18-1 The priests the Levites, and all the tribe of Levi, shall have no part nor inheritance with Israel: they shall eat the offerings of the LORD made by fire, and his inheritance.
These levite priests were to come only from the line of Aaron
Numbers 18 - 1 And the LORD said unto Aaron, Thou and thy sons and thy father's house with thee shall bear the iniquity of the sanctuary: and thou and thy sons with thee shall bear the iniquity of your priesthood
Jesus was not from Aaron and he wasn't from the tribe of Levi. He was from Judah and the Bible states Moses spoke nothing of the priesthood regarding Judah.
Hebrews 7-14 For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.
It is actually IMPOSSIBLE under the law for Jesus to be High Priest. He is either NOT high priest or the law cannot remain.
The Bible very clearly explains this
Jesus is not a priest under the order of Levi but he is a priest under the order of Melchizedek
Hebrews 5-6 As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
Hebrews 6-20 Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
The ONLY way that Jesus could have been made a priest is if he was made priest NOT under the law.
Again the Bible very clearly states that with the change of priesthood from that of the Levites then it requires a change of the law. We are even told that under the levitical priesthood perfection could NOT be obtained
Hebrews 7- 11 If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron? 12 For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.13 For he of whom these things are spoken pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar. 14 For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood. 15 And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest, 16 Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.
17 For he testifieth, Thou art a priest forever after the order of Melchisedec.
So the fact is for Jesus to be high priest, and Jesus IS high priest it required a change from and the end of the old Levitical law.
We CANNOT be under the law and Jesus be high priest. The law has passed.
