HOSPITALITY 6
by Olawale Ogunsola
8/20/2017 / Christian Living
“…but she out of her poverty put in all that
She had, her whole livelihood.” Mark 12:44. New King James Version (NKJV).
A woman once said, after listening to a message on Hospitality, that “Abraham had all that it takes to be hospitable and that the Lord should provide for her things to do same.” This woman is right in a sense. However, hospitality is not the sole responsibility of those who are wealthy. It is a function of all!
You can read more on this in part one of this piece.
Do not forget that the widow woman in Zarephath was not rich to host Prophet Elijah but she made what she had available to make him comfortable.
Do you know that the Lord appreciates the sacrificial gift of the poor? This was the case with the widow who threw in two mites into the temple Treasury. Jesus said about her,
“Assuredly, I say to you that this poor widow has put
In more than all those who have given to the treasury;
For they all put in out of their abundance, but she out
of her poverty put in all that she had, her whole livelihood.” Mark 12:43-44
Can you do likewise?
Let me discuss with you the story of Pastor David, a converted Muslim whose name was Daud then, as narrated by him.
What happened?
One fateful day, he was alone in his house having nothing to eat. He was not ready to borrow money from anybody to feed himself, nor was he prepared to buy raw or cooked food on credit. All because he did not want the Name of Jesus to have a dent in his life.
The hunger persisted until the afternoon.
What followed?
THINGS INVOLVED
In the afternoon of that day, he heard a voice telling him to go out of the house to the veranda. He had the hope that maybe, someone will see him to show him mercy and favor outside the house.
He was wrong!
About ten minutes later, a lunatic appeared in front of his house, He said, “Daud, give me what I will eat this afternoon.” What an irony of life? Pastor David, asked him three times, “Do you want me to give you what you will eat this afternoon?”
“Yea!” was the answer he received.
The man of God then asked him to wait for him. As soon as he provided him a chair to sit on, he went out.
Where did he go?
He went to a food vendor on the same street to buy food on credit saying that he had a visitor to entertain but would not want him to know about what he planned to provide him. So he bought rice and beans cooked with meat that can satisfy an adult, two sachets of water accompanied it. He presented it to the insane man and he ate.
He thanked Pastor David and went his way.
BENEFITS
The man of God had many testimonies, among which are
- On that day, he was fed with the food his heart desired.
- He had money to pay for the food he bought on credit.
- He was able to show kindness of God to those who deserve it. Without stress.
- He had nothing less than $10,000 dollars before he slept on that day.
Note that this man of God had reasonable points to fail to show hospitality on that day. The only possession he had to comfort the stranger was “influence”; and he used it perfectly. Therefore, there is no reason for anyone not to be hospitable. Use what you have legally and morally to receive what is in the hand of God.
Stay blessed and prepared for the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.
