The God of Overflow
by Steve Countryman
6/12/2017 / Christian Living
Psalms 23:5 “You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.” John 10:10 “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
It is good to remind yourself every once in a while who the God you serve is. For He is not the God of lack. He’s not the God of barely enough. Nor is He the God of get me by. And most definitely Jehovah God is not the God of the “glass is half empty”.
The God you serve is the God of abundance. He is the God of overflow, excess, surplus, too much, supply, provision, extreme, excellence and extravagance. God overflows us so that we can become spillers of His blessings and love to others. 2 Corinthians 9:8 “And God is able to make all grace [every favor and earthly blessing] come in abundance to you, so that you may always [under all circumstances, regardless of the need] have complete sufficiency in everything [being completely self-sufficient in Him], and have an abundance for every good work and act of charity.”
Often we do things not understanding the consequences they have on and over our lives. We SETTLE for what is at hand which most of the time is far less than what God wants to bless us with. Settling is a form of compromise. With living our daily lives in a sinful world with its influences we often allow them to hinder our walk with Father God.
For example the lies of the devil are constantly being whispered in your ears… “You’re not worthy, you’re not good enough to be that blessed.” “With your past you don’t deserve anything good from God.” All those lies which are meant to keep you stuck in your past failures and mistakes.
So what happens is you accept the trash that the world shoves at you as your lot, your portion. Settling for leftovers, get me byes, scraps and feeding from the trashcan of life. The trash that you allow in your life is what you have grown accustom to looking at everyday. It has become the “norm” because of the lies and deception of the evil one. Settling compromises away the best of what God has for you so you receive the “almost good” which ultimately causes you to end up with even less.
What you “FEED” your mind, what you look at and listen to is what your mind, soul, spirit and body live on. TV, news, sit-coms, reality shows, violence and utube allows those seeds to grow in your spirit.
Consider those who you “hang with” follow, imitate, try to please so you can keep them as a friend. Wanting to be a member of a group so badly that you bury your mind and time in social media, texting and posts.
Allowing worldly influences to shape your thoughts and beliefs through the movies you watch, music you listen to and the lyrics you sing. Anger and road rage becomes a problem as adult temper tantrums take over what’s left of common sense. I’ve watched those videos on utube of “angry people” who go ballistic over the least little thing. They “BLOW UP” at anything, anywhere and at anytime. Not caring who is around or who witnesses these volcanic reactions including their own children as ALL the curse words are screamed aloud.
Letting the trash of this world permeate your life and influence your lifestyle will hinder you from receiving God’s best for your life. As if you are too busy putting barricades up to block those blessings as you go through your daily life. You can’t reach out to receive and accept God’s best if you don’t first LET GO of the trash that you are holding tightly to. Let go of the lies, confusion, anger, un-forgiveness, past and worldly thinking that has held you back and harmed you. Don’t miss out any longer on what God’s best is for your life. Enjoy it!
