Mother's, Watch!

by Olawale Ogunsola

As the wind of mothers' day celebration blows each year, I want to share with mothers what they should not only watch but beware of.
What is this?
It is, IMPOSITION OF IDEAS!
This three - word sentence have negative outcomes in the lives of many mothers, their children and the household in general. Whereas, God, the creator of Heaven and earth has His perfect plans for all He had created. Several times, human imposition of ideas, especially mothers', attempts to distort the perfect plan of God.
This ought not to be so.
Let us examine briefly, the life of a mother who imposed her ideas on her beloved son to see clearly what the outcome was. Her story is taken from the Scriptures, in the book of Genesis.
In Genesis chapter number twenty-four, Rebecca's marriage with Issac, her husband was consummated with God's approval. This was revealed in the story of marriage emissary, the oldest servant of Abraham, Isaac's father and the response of Laban and Bethuel. Their response was,
"The thing comes from the Lord, we cannot speak to you either bad or good." Gen 24:50.
After twenty years of barrenness, Rebecca became pregnant and great secret was revealed by the Lord about what the lives of the twin children in her womb looked like.
He said, "Two nations are in your womb,
Two peoples shall be separated
from your body,
One shall be stronger than
the other.
And the Older shall serve the younger." Gen 25:23. NKJV.
This great revelation endeared the heart of Rebecca to Jacob the younger. She loved him unconditionally. She was anxiously waiting for the period when Esau would serve his younger brother. When the night of Isaac drew near, he displayed his conditional love for Esau. He wanted to bless him but attached a condition before doing this:
"Bring me game and make savory food for me,
that I may eat it and bless you in the presence of the Lord before my death". Gen 27:7
Rebecca over head this and quickly took steps to avert this plan. She turned everything around against Esau, unknowingly, and against herself, Jacob, Isaac. She imposed her own ideas on Jacob, against his will, to steal that proposed blessings. In her words, "Let your curse be on me, my son, : only obey my voice, and go get
them (two choice kids of the goats from the flock) for me." Gen 27:9-13
What was the outcome?
The evil action became known to Isaac and Esau, whose blessings were stolen.
Esau then determined that there should be no alternative for a thief to death : so he purposed to eliminate Jacob. If not for the Lord's intervention, the family would have lost a son out of two they had, read Gen 27:41. On hearing of that evil plan, Rebecca sent Jacob to her family in Haran to live with Laban. Verse 43.
However, Rebecca's plan for Jacob to stay in Haran for ".. a few days" turned to twenty years of servitude and deceit. Gen 31:41. Where was Rebecca's closenessness with Jacob during the years in exile? Non - existed!. They missed each other's love. Rebecca had her share of sorrow. She lamented on Jacob's choice of marriage partner :
"I am weary of my life... what good will my life be to me?" Gen 27:33.
She also lost the physical presence of Jacob for twenty years.
Do you think that Esau did not suffer sorrow? He surely did!
Jacob on his paid dearly for what he did to Esau ten times. (see Gen 31:7). At a place where his mother could not rescue him.
Do you know that there is no need for you to "aid and abet" crime that your child may fulfil destiny? A stream will always follow it's natural cause. God has a grand design of how to bring His plan to pass. Let Him act in His own way.
Before the stealing of his blessing, Esau had voluntarily given his birthright to Jacob his younger brother without the influence of third party. (Read Gen 25:29-34).
The interesting part of the story was that both Jacob and Esau declared that they "had enough". Gen 33:9,11.
Mothers, therefore watch and beware of what influence you bring on your children, because it has consequences that will be hard to bear.
Your children are God's heritage, let God's plans for them take their natural cause. Do not impose your ideas on them, especially when it is negative.
Stay blessed and raptilurable because the Lord is coming soon.
