The Man From Behind

The street in the old quarter was quiet; the smell was the scent of ancient days that had passed. A lone Jewish man makes his way down the old limestone path. Was he going to or coming from Synagogue? What causes such a man to behold a place like this? Unaware of the outside world of glitter and fame he chooses the modest life, draped in a black overcoat, black hat and white shirt; his world is simple he just studies the Torah and walks in the ways of his forefathers. What are his thoughts as he travels this street alone? Maybe he is continuing his prayers or just concentrating on the sound of the metal tip of his umbrella as it strikes the aged stony street.

Passing by this way only once, a moment caught in time that will forever be lost, words were not spoken nor eyes ever met, the man continues on his journey and I on mine. A brief glance down one street brings many thoughts.

I am the man behind you, you do not see me, I just happened upon this place. I stopped long enough to take in the view and continued on. What troubles or joys does the street behold? For just a split second I looked into your world and I do not comprehend it. Maybe you are the man behind me looking into my world yet we have never met, what could have been, a life experience lost into eternity because we only looked and never stopped to breath in one another's world. I have somewhere to be and you as well when we have reach our destinations will it have been worth it?

We all are at some time in this life, the man from behind, what do you see?
