Are you ready for the big time?

by Vanessa Grossett

Most of us will answer yes to that question. Yes Lord we are ready for our breakthrough whatever that maybe. Most people will pray for a breakthrough within their business or workplace, to reach the place of abundance, where they are prospering financially. However though you may think you're ready, the reality is you may not be.

Another good friend of mine is an accountant. She was fed up of being an assistant, and wanted to go straight into being a senior accountant. She informed me of her plans to look for a job within that field. I would advise her against it, not because I didn't want her to prosper but I knew she wasn't ready. She still needed more practice and training within this career.

She eventually got a job interview with a top accountancy firm in the City; she rang and excitedly told me about this.

"I can do this Vanessa, I know I can. I am not going to talk negative, and you shouldn't either." She told me one time.

"You need to discern between negative and wisdom talking," I responded. "I personally don't think you're ready, I think you should take more time to learn about your career, stay where you are for now, what's the rush?"

She wasn't happy with my response, and went for the interview. To my surprise she got the job, and boasted to me about it but I wasn't fazed, I still knew she was making the wrong decision.

One evening I got a distressing phone call from her, she would complain about the job, stating she had to work with formulas she didn't understand, and they were piling her with so much work. She had to be on top performance all the time, as her clients were multi million pound businesses, and she couldn't afford to get their accounts wrong.

She had to educate and read up on her accountancy just to make sure she was doing the right thing, she was staying up late to do this and getting up early. She couldn't function, whereas if she stayed where she was she would have learned the basics properly and worked her way up. Yes the money would have been less, but the quality of work would have been better. I didn't want to tell her 'I told you so'; instead I just lent a listening ear.

Five months down the line she got fired. She made a huge mistake on a large business accountant, it cost the Company she worked for at the time millions to rectify the mistake.

She was more upset that she got the accounts wrong than being fired; being fired was a relief to her. I am pleased now that she has a job as an accountant assistant, and is due for a promotion soon.

Brethren there is a lesson to be learnt to this story. Be grateful for the small that God has given you, because in the small you will learn how to handle the large.

We always hear about the good about prosperity but it also has its problems. There is a saying that goes 'the more you have the more you want'. People will work endlessly to get more and that goes for Christians too. This leads to neglect of their home, and church life. Proverbs 18:16 'Better a little with the fear of the LORD, than great wealth with turmoil.'

Also some people start being jealous and envious, which can lead to slanderous remarks about you. You have to learn to forgive; plus you have to learn how to handle large amounts of money. If you can't handle a small amount of money, then you'll have problems handling large amounts of money. Most importantly your relationship with God, has to be solid, and I mean solid as a rock. If it isn't then it won't be in the big, as greed, power, and pride will over take Christ like characteristics.

Brethren it is important to be grateful for what God has given you, take care of it and do not despise the small things be contented, as when the big time comes you'll truly be ready.

'But godliness actually is a means of great gain when accompanied by contentment. For we have brought nothing into the world, so we cannot take anything out of it either.' 1 Timothy 6:6
