Gentle Jesus

4/26/2015 / Bible Studies
This gentle Jesus of ours.
Anybody who had that image of the gentle Jesus, which a lot of the world has. You know the one about being born in a manger and that is what the children sing about at Christmas. Would be surprised as they read through the Bible.
Sure he was gentle and kind, that was his nature. But there were times when he could be very plain spoken. In the Gospel of Luke Chapter 8. verses 22- 23. Jesus had said, let us go over to the other side of the lake. He fell asleep and a great wind sprang up. So bad that the disciples thought they would drown.
Bear in mind that some of these were experienced fishermen. Who were well used to such things. Things must have been bad for these men to wake him up. His reply was to rebuke the wind and the waves and then to tell them, where is your faith!. Now this was something the fishermen amongst them would not have woke him unless they knew they were in big trouble. It sometimes takes a situation that we are familiar with that we then realize how great God is.
Then when Jesus rebukes the weather, they said who can this be?. It became real obvious that they still did not know who he really was. Often as we read through the Gospels we see Jesus rebuking them for their lack of faith. That is something that we find hard to understand. These were men who had been with Jesus, seen the miracles. They had heard Jesus speak with such authority and educated people had been amazed at his knowledge. They would see him feed thousand of people, from just about nothing.
The point I am making is this. How often have we said or thought. If only I could see or hear Jesus. What a wonder that would be. We believe and have faith, but what about when the rubber hits the road, and we are in real trouble and because of things we have been through, we know it. Do we have the faith to trust and believe in God all the way. But we have a helper the Holy Spirit who will speak to us and guide us and lead us through times of trials.
In 1 Peter chapter 1. verse 7.It says, that the genuineness of our faith being much more precious than gold that perishes. Though it is tested be fire, may be found to praise, honor and glory, at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
Now that says it all, so the trials and tribulations that we go through in this world. And nowhere in the bible does it say we will be exempt from them. When we keep that genuine faith, it is to praise, honor and glory to Jesus. So we just do not say we can do this trial on our own. We give it to Jesus and have the faith to know he will take us through it.
Easy! Some may say, is that so. Well I can tell you it takes genuine faith. I should know, been there and worn the tee shirt.
