Our Daily Bread

During His earthly ministry, Jesus Christ taught His disciples, at their request, how to pray. The ALL KNOWING Lord included the following words in His teaching,
"Our Father in heaven... ,
Give us this day Our Daily Bread". Matthew 6:11.
These words are worthy of serious considerations. It is a very rich and highly profitable statement. It demonstrates the deeper love the Lord has for His people.
It is also a way to express His good thoughts towards man. Now, let us consider some of the reasons "Give us this day, Our Daily Bread" is of great benefits.
Reason One.
As a father to His children, our Father in heaven wants us to enjoy His fellowship. He needs our attention for our own gains. He is an unchanging God.
In the garden of Eden, He used to visit mankind in the cool of the day,(Gen. 3:8).
If you see Him as your only source of provisions, you will not fail to go to Him "Who satisfies your mouth with good things", Psalm 103:5a.
This will attach you to your Provider. You will be able to say like the Psalmist,
"O God, You are my God;
Early will I seek You;
My soul thirsts for You;
My flesh longs for You..." Psalm 63:1
With this kind of seriousness to seek (or be attached to) God, your needs will be met.
Reason Two:
Pride and arrogance will be eliminated. You will not see yourself as the provider of your needs; nor be intoxicated by abundance of provisions. It will prevent you from forgetting God. He lamented on His people, Isreal,
"When they had pasture, they were filled;
They were filled and their heart was exalted;
Therefore they forgot Me."
But Jeshurun grew fat and kicked;
You grew fat, and you grew thick,
You are obese!
Then he forsook God who made him.
And scornfully esteemed the Rock of His salvation." Hosea 13:6; Deuteronomy32:15.
Our Daily Bread is a guide against this type of misbehavior.
Reason Three:
It will also prevent wastages. Our Father in Heaven does not like being wasteful. He is ever ready to meet all your NEEDS and not WANTS. He does not want you to squander His resources .
In the wilderness, when He satisfied His people with bread from heaven, manna. His instruction was:
"Let every man gather it according to the number of persons; let every man take for those who are in his tent." Exodus 16:16.
Those who disobeyed lost the excess to worms. To avoid this, Our Daily Bread is the instruction.
Jesus Christ, after feeding five thousand men, warned His disciples,
"Gather up the fragments that remain, so that nothing is lost." John 6:12.
So, our daily bread will prevent wastages. You will value and protect what you need.
REASON FOUR:
Our Daily Bread guides against destruction of God's provisions by enemies of your soul. It is only what is stored here on earth that any attacker can spoil. He has no power at all over the store in heaven.
In the same vein, no fire outbreak can destroy what is with our Father in heaven. Your provisions with Hin are in safety; your hope cannot be dashed at all. No sorrow can come to you.
The Lord exhorts His people thus,
"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth,
where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Matthew 6:17-20.
Our Daily Bread provides security for your treasures and heart. Both will be taken care of by our Father in heaven.
Reason Five:
It will eradicate sin; because daily provisions is the answer.
King Agur was aware of the dangers inherent in too much possessions, so he prayed,
"Two things I request of You
(Deprive me not before I die)
Remove falsehood and lies far from me;
Give neither poverty nor riches-
Feed me with the food alloted to me;
Lest I be full and deny You,
And say, ' Who is the Lord?'
Or kest I be poor and steal,
And profane the name of my God." Proverbs 30:7-9.
The plight of many rich and comfortable people today was expressed by this king. If you tell them about God or Jesus Christ, you will instantly become their enemy. That cord which ought to attach them to God was already broken. May the Lord touch their hearts.
If you are one of them, today, have a rethink. Those words are from a wise king. Therefore, be wise too !
