Oh, Woe to Thee Evildoers!
by Jennifer Champion
10/08/2014 / World Affairs
Today, around the globe, news reports come in about the arrests of people that were about to perform or were planning some horrendous act of terrorism.
Tomorrow, we will see similar reports or worse yet, another murderous video. The events happening in our world are devastating and we should all be praying and turning to God. We should ask ourselves about the strength of our faith in Him.
The prophet Micah lived in a time such as these and he forewarned the people then of the wrath of God:
Woe to those who plan iniquity,
To those who plot evil on their beds!
At morning's light they carry it out
Because it is in their power to do it.
They covet fields and seize them,
And houses and take them.
They defraud people of their homes,
They rob them of their inheritance. (Micah 2:1-2 NIV)
We naturally concern ourselves about the state of our society and wonder when the next attack will be on our own soil or when the next person to be beheaded will be one our citizens. We watch with eyes half open as thousands of people are forced out of their homeland to seek refuge in a foreign country with nothing more than the shirt on their back. Our faith should be strong in the Lord during these times because He has always proven that He is in control. Take for instance God's wrath on the Assyrian camp in 2 Kings 36-36,
That night the angel of the Lord went out and put to death a hundred and eighty five thousand in the Assyrian camp. When the people got up the next morning there were all the dead bodies! So, Sennacherib king of Assyria broke camp and withdrew.
The Assyrians were cruel beyond anything we have seen. They imprisoned people and tortured them by blinding them, cutting them, stripping off slices of their skin, and ran hooks through their noses. The prophet Isaiah foretold of the fall of Sennacherib and the Assyrian. Our Lord is the God of action in the face of injustice. His anger will pour down on those that commit evil. Micah 2:3 is a perfect illustration of God's promise to take down evil doers:
Therefore the Lord says:
"I am planning disaster against this people,
From which you cannot save yourselves.
You will no longer walk proudly
For it will be a time of calamity."
So, tomorrow when we read the news or listen to the radio with reports of the evil in our world, we should stop and pray. Then, we should smile because God's is never wrong. He never lies and deceives. He always delivers what he says. God is not happy with what is happening in our world. He does not support these acts of persecution, imprisonment, and murder against Christians. He is an angry God when it comes to someone hurting his children and going against him.
As Christians, we know how the story ends because Jesus Christ, God's only begotten son that was born on earth and died on earth so that we may be saved said it himself, "Yes, I am coming soon." (Revelation 22:20 NIV)
