The Triune Identity of God!

by Fergus Davar
6/09/2013 / Christian Apologetics

The Bible teaches saying that God is one. Meaning, it is not that there is one God but that the 3 Persons of the Godhead are One. If we were to consider that there was just one entity or one person as God, then what is left to thought is that there would have been a time, when before any creation existed that this god would have been alone. This leans towards the understanding that creation came into existence to add a lively environment around to fill the NEED of loneliness of this entity. However if there were ever such a thing as a NEED of God then this would show that he does not fully encompass all things, implying that this is no God.

The Bible teaches that God is love, as we know love is the foundation of relationships. So the way God would be love is if there were a relationship between Persons, who existed timelessly before and after, meaning He was in fellowship and worship of Himself even before creation ever existed. He had no need for creation because the fellowship each Person received in the Godhead was infinite as it came from an infinite Person. Creation came into existence out of His good pleasure. You see even the worship creation offers Him comes from Himself and that is why the Bible says that He seeks worship in Spirit and truth for in three Persons He encompasses and sources all things even the worship that is offered to Him.

So you may ask now, how is this different from polytheism, well the Triune God i.e. Father, Son and Spirit does not increase in number with time, the three Persons are equal in power and glory, differing only in role. Their Personhood is timeless unlike the polytheistic deities.
