Both God and Man are Spirits

by Arien Williams
5/09/2013 / Christian Apologetics

John 4:24 God is a spirit (a spiritual Being) and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth (reality).

AMP Numbers 27:16 Let the Lord, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation.

Hebrews 12:9 Moreover, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we yielded [to them] and respected [them for training us]. Shall we not much more cheerfully submit to the Father of spirits and so [truly] live?
Numbers 16:22 And they fell upon their faces, and said, oh God, the God of the spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin and will You be angry with all the congregation?

GOD IS INVISIBLE:
1. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Romans 1:20
2. [Now] He is the exact likeness of the unseen God [the visible representation of the invisible]; He is the Firstborn of all creation. Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature...Colossians 1:15 AMP
3. Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen. Timothy 1:17
4. God dwells in the unapproachable light whom no man hath seen, nor can see 1 Timothy 6:16
5. No man hath seen God at any time John 1:18; 1 John 4:12
6. Hebrews 11:27 By faith he forsook Egypt, for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible
7. Whosoever abides in him sins not: whosoever sins hath not seen him1 John 3:6 3 John 1:11

THE FIVE SENSES OF FATHER GOD: Since man was created in the image and likeness of God then God must have the same five senses operating in His Body even though He is a spirit. The bible states in Genesis 1:27 So, God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God He created him; male and female He created them. Therefore, God Himself has the ability to see, touch, taste, smell and to hear. He has eyes, hands, ears, a nose and a mouth. We must see ourselves having the ability of not only being an image and likeness of God but also to function like our Father God.
1. THE EARS OF GOD:
Exodus 2:23-25 Years passed, and the king of Egypt died. But the Israelites still groaned beneath their burden of slavery. They cried out for help, and their pleas for deliverance rose up to God. God heard their cries and remembered his covenant promise to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He looked down on the Israelites and felt deep concern for their welfare. (NLT)
1 Peter 3:12 For the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous (those who are upright and in right standing with God), and His ears are attentive to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who practice evil [to oppose them, to frustrate, and defeat them]. (AMP)

2. THE NOSTRILS OF GOD:
Isaiah 1:13 The incense you bring me is a stench in my nostrils! Your celebrations of the new moon and the Sabbath day, and your special days for fasting--even your most pious meetings--are all sinful and false. I want nothing more to do with them. (NLT)
Ezekiel 38:18 But in that day when Gog shall come against the land of Israel, says the Lord God, My wrath shall come up into My nostrils. (AMP)
Samuel 22:8-9 Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations of heaven moved and shook, because he was wroth. There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it. (KJV)
Exodus 15:8 And with the blast of thy nostrils the waters were gathered together, the floods stood upright as an heap, and the depths were congealed in the heart of the sea. (KJV)

3. THE EYES OF GOD:
Kings 22:43 And he walked in all the ways of his father Asa. He did not turn aside from them, doing what was right in the eyes of the LORD. Nevertheless the high places were not taken away, for the people offered sacrifices and burned incense on the high places. (NKJV)
2 Chronicles 16:9 For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars. (KJV)
2 Samuel 15:25 Then the king said to Zadok, "Carry the ark of God back into the city. If I find favor in the eyes of the LORD, He will bring me back and show me both it and His dwelling place. (NKJV)

4. THE HAND OF GOD:
Isaiah 59:1 Behold, the LORD's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: (KJV)
Job 19:21 Have pity upon me, have pity upon me, O ye my friends; for the hand of God hath touched me. (KJV)
Ecclesiastes 2:24 There is nothing better for a man, than that he should eat and drink, and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labour. This also I saw, that it was from the hand of God. (KJV)
1 Peter 5:6 Therefore humble yourselves [demote, lower yourselves in your own estimation] under the mighty hand of God, that in due time He may exalt you, (AMP)

5. THE MOUTH OF GOD:
Matthew 4:4 But He answered and said, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. (NKJV)
Deuteronomy 8:3 So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the LORD. (NKJV)
Isaiah 1:20 But if you refuse and rebel, You shall be devoured by the sword"; For the mouth of the LORD has spoken. (NKJV)
Isaiah 40:5 The glory of the LORD shall be revealed, And all flesh shall see it together; For the mouth of the LORD has spoken." (NKJV)
Revelation 3:15-16 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. (KJV

THE CREATION OF THE INNER MAN:
MAN IS A SPIRIT: In the book of John 4:24 the bible states, "God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth." (KJV) This verse in the Message Bible states, "God is sheer being itself--Spirit. Those who worship him must do it out of their very being, their spirits, their true selves, in adoration." AMP The word Spirit is defined as, or like, the wind, which is invisible and powerful. The word "being" is the state or quality of having existence. Therefore God exist as a "Spirit Being" and the men and women that worship Him must do it out of their very being (Inner Man) which is spirit.

God created man to look and function just like Himself. In the book of Genesis 1:27 the Bible states, "So, God created man in His own image, in the image and likeness of God He created him; male and female He created them". (AMP) God also made an earth covering (body) for the Inner Man and Soul. In Genesis 2:7 the Bible states, "And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul".
The Inner Man was created and the body was formed, or made, to house the Inner Man? The 1812 edition of the Webster's dictionary renders the meaning of the word "created" as, "to make or produce, by new combinations of matter already created, and by investing these combinations with new forms, constitutions and qualities; to shape and organize."
The matter in which the Inner Man was created was from spirit substance or matter from the spirit world by God Himself who is a Spirit Being. The body was formed by God from the natural substance, or matter, from the natural world. So, man does not just merely have a spirit but is a spirit created in the image and likeness of God.
Once an individual receives Christ, his Inner Man becomes a new creature. Second Corinthians 5:17 states, "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." His Inner Man becomes born again of the Spirit of God. At this point Godly desires begin to flow from the Inner Man to the soul and to the body. A spiritual awakening takes place at the new birth of the spirit. This individual begins to live life by being directed of the Holy Spirit instead of following the natural desires of the body (outer man).
First Corinthians 2:14 states, "But the natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned." Many of God's people really don't realize how magnificently we were created.
Psalms 139:14 the Bible states, "I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well."
Throughout the Bible there were people of God that understood and identified with their Inner Man, "the real man - or person." In the scriptures we also find the Inner Man is also referred to as the inner man, innermost being, inner self, whole inner self, inward man and spirit of man.
May He grant you out of the rich treasury of His glory to be strengthened and reinforced with mighty power in the inner man by the [Holy] Spirit [Himself indwelling your innermost being and personality] Ephesians 3:16 (AMP)
Psalm 51:6 Behold, You desire truth in the inner being; make me therefore to know wisdom in my inmost heart. (AMP)
Psalm 16:9 Therefore my heart is glad and my glory [my inner self] rejoices; my body too shall rest and confidently dwell in safety, (Amp)
Isaiah 16:11 Wherefore my heart sounds like a harp [in mournful compassion] for Moab, and my inner being [goes out] for Kir-hareseth [for those brick-walled citadels of his]. (AMP)
Psalm 71:23 My lips shall shout for joy when I sing praises to You, and my inner being, which You have redeemed. (AMP)
Habakkuk 3:16 I heard and my [whole inner self] trembled; my lips quivered at the sound. Rottenness enters into my bones and under me [down to my feet]; (AMP)
Hebrews 9:9 Seeing that that first [outer portion of the] tabernacle was a parable (a visible symbol or type or picture of the present age). In it gifts and sacrifices are offered, and yet are incapable of perfecting the conscience or of cleansing and renewing the inner man of the worshiper. (AMP)
2 Corinthians 4:16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. (NKJV)
Ecclesiastes 12:7 Then shall the dust [out of which God made man's body] return to the earth as it was, and the spirit shall return to God who gave it. (AMP)
