Forgiveness

by Shelia Hardie
4/03/2013 / Self Help

During the many therapy sessions that I have had regarding the molestation inflicted upon me by my father, there was a discussion that he may have been molested also or exposed to it as a young boy. Of course this is a fact and it is very logical, but for my case, I was not buying it. I was not satisfied with that answer to help me to forgive and move on to the next step.
Naturally I became burdened as a Christian because I was not being obedient to God's word. I was convicted on so many levels. I prayed and prayed and one day I found the clarity that I needed that set me free from the bondage of hate, anger, resentment and many more shackles that kept me down.
Romans 5:12 states that all men are born into sin through Adam, therefore we are born with a sinful nature. When we accept Christ as our Savior we must rely on consistent obedience to His word and communication so that we are not prone to act out on our sinful nature. With my father, although he claimed to be a Christian, he was only a hearer of the word and not a doer of the word as stated in James 1:22. He "fed" his sinful nature and I was his "drug". The more he got his "fix" the more he became addicted. I was just an object. His sinful is NOT a product of who I am. Only my SYMPTOMS (PTSD) are. So now that I understand that it was his sinful nature I have pity for what he is going to be accountable for. I know now that in God's eyes, we are accountable for our own sins...NOT the sins of others. So now I am free from carrying the guilt of feeling the shame of HIS sin, when all along I thought I was the one sinning.

I Shelia Hardie state that all the statements are from my own experiences and cannot be credited to anyone other than myself
