The Snow Shoe

is an exercise in motion
one pressing foot
at a time---and using
a healthy stretch

muscles tuned in to walks
common under the sun

crisp air
fresh trail
snow heaved upon itself
and a chirping among
feathers
following along.

The walker is often lost
in thought---failure
and success
wrestling for a little space
---then
time for a return
to the business of life
bills and kids
and one lovely among
them all --
a darling wife

waiting for her man
and prayers protecting him .
on journeys safe return.
