Jesus The Bridge To Heaven ( Mini series ) lesson 7
by Stephen Vattimo
1/21/2013 / Bible Studies
The goal of this lesson is to present the evidence that Jesus , The Christ 's death
was not circumstantial, but predestined !
Outline of lesson 7 :
Jesus' death on the cross - was it fate or predestined ?
Isaiah chapter 53: 1
Who has believed our message to whom has the arm of The Lord been revealed
( 2 ) for He grew up before Him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of a
parched ground ; He has no stately form or majesty that we should look upon
Him, nor appearance that we should be attracted to Him. ( 3 ) He was despised
and forsaken of men, a man of sorrow and acquainted with grief ; and like one
from whom men hid their face, He was despised and we did not esteem Him.
( 4 ) Surely our griefs He Himself bore, and our sorrows He carried ; yet we our
selves esteemed Him stricken , smitten of God , And afflicted. ( 5 ) But He
was pierced through for our transgressions , He was crushed for our iniquities ;
the chastened for our well being fell upon Him, and by His scourging we are
healed. ( 6 ) All of us like sheep have gone astray , each of us has turned his own
way ; but The Lord has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him. ( 7 ) He was
oppressed and He was afflicted , yet He did not open His mouth ; like a lamb that
is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that is silent before it's shearers, so He
did not open His mouth. ( 8 ) By oppression and judgment He was He was taken
away ; and as for His Generation, who considered that He was cut off out of the
land of the living for the transgressions of My people to whom the stroke was
due ? ( 9 ) His grave was assigned with the wicked men , yet He was with a rich
man in His death, because He had done no violence , nor was there any deceit in
His mouth. ( 10 ) But The Lord was pleased to crush Him , putting Him to grief ; if
He would render Himself as a guilt offering, He will see His offering , He will
prolong His days and the good pleasure of The Lord will prosper in His hand.
( 11 ) As a result of the anguish of His soul, He will see it and be satisfied ; by
His knowledge the Righteous One, My Servant , will justify the many, as He will
bear their iniquities. ( 12 ) Therefore, I will allot Him a portion with the great, and
He will divide the booty with the strong ; because He poured out Himself to death ,
and was numbered with the transgressors ; yet He Himself bore the sins of
many , and interceded for the transgressor.
Jesus foretold His death on the cross and His resurrection from the dead to His
disciples.
Mark chapter 8 : 31
And He began to teach them that the Son Of Man must suffer many things and be
rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed and after three
days rise again.
Jesus told Nicodemus that The Son Of Man had to die on the cross to reconcile
man back to fellowship with God .
John chapter 3 : 14 - 15
" And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness and even so must The Son
Of Man be lifted up. ( 15 ) That whosoever believes may in Him have eternal life."
The Bronze serpent healed the bitten Israelites.
Numbers Chapter 21 : 7 - 8
So the people came to Moses and said, " We have sinned because we have
spoken against The Lord and you ; intercede with The Lord that He may remove
the serpents from us. And Moses interceded for the people. (8 ) Then The Lord
said to Moses , " Make a fiery serpent and set it on a standard ; and it shall come
about , that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it , he shall live ."
Jesus knew He was going to be betrayed to the religious leaders by one of His
disciples ; He knew the betrayer by name, yet did not try to stop him .
John chapter 13 : 25 - 27
He leaned back thus on Jesus' breast , said to Him ," Lord , Who is it ? "
( 26 ) Jesus therefore answered, " That is the one fore whom i shall dip the
morsel and give to him. " When He had dipped the morsel , He took and gave it to
Judas , the son of Simon Iscariot. ( 27 ) And after the morsel , Satan then entered
into Him. Jesus therefore said to him, " what you do, do it quickly . "
Jesus rebuked one of His disciples when he tried to prevent Jesus' arrest , by
striking a slave of the high priest. Jesus tell them that if it was God's will, He
could prevent His own arrest.
Matthew chapter 26 : 50 - 54
And Jesus said to him , " Friend , do what you have come for." Then they came
and laid hands on Jesus seized Him. ( 51 ) And behold one of those who were
with Jesus reached and drew out his sword struck the slave of the high priest ,
and cut off his ear . ( 52 ) Then Jesus said to him, " Put your sword back in it's
place ; for all those who take up the sword shall perish by the sword. ( 53 ) or do
you think that i can not appeal to My Father, and He will at once put at My disposal
twelve legions of angels. ( 54 ) How then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that it
must happen this way ? "
Jesus did not defend Himself against the false testimonies that were spoken
against Him at His trial .
Matthew chapter 27 : 12 - 14
And while He was being accused by the chief priests and elders, He made no
answer. ( 13 ) Then Pilot said to Him, " Do You not hear how many things they
testify against You ? (14 ) " And He did not answer him with regard to even a
single charge, so that the governor was quite amazed.
In the midst of His suffering on the cross, Jesus did not doubt His own identity as
God's sent Savior.
Luke chapter 23 : 40 - 43
But the other answered, and rebuking him said, " Do you not even fear God, since
you are under the same sentence of condemnation ? ( 41 ) And we indeed
justly, for we are receiving what we deserve for our deeds, but this man has done
nothing wrong. ( 42 ) " And he was saying, " Jesus , remember me when You
come into your kingdom ! " And He said to him, " Truly I say to you, today you shall
be with Me in Paradise. "
After Jesus fulfilled all of the things that God predestined to take place on the
cross, He proclaimed that it was finished .
John chapter 19 : 13
When Jesus therefore had received the sour wine , He said , " It is finished ! "
And He bowed His head and gave up His Spirit .
Through Adam came separation from God, Through Jesus came reunion with
God.
Romans chapter 5 : 12 - 15
Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death
through sin , so death spread to all men , because all sinned . ( 13 ) For until the
law sin was in the world ; but sin is not imputed where there is no law.
( 14 ) Nevertheless death reined from Adam until Moses, even over those who
had not sinned in the likeness of offense of Adam, who is a type of Him who was
to come. ( 15 ) But the free gift is not like the transgression, for if by the
transgression of the one the many died, much more did the grace of one Man ,
Jesus Christ, abound to the many ."
