The Captain of the Lord's Army
By the Authority of the Lord, Joshua had been given the command to take over as leader of Israel. He was to take the children of Israel into the promise land and defeat the inhabitants of the land and take possession of the land. Joshua received his orders from the kingdom of God, not the people, not his own agenda, not from his crew, family or friends but God Almighty. All those who serve the Kingdom of God adhere to one agenda, God's plan for salvation.
He gives the strategic orders for the battle against the enemy. Our own plans get all messed but God's plans never fail. God doesn't consult with anybody about what He wants done. God's plans for the Kingdom of God have been strategically laid out. In God's Kingdom he is our Commander in Chief, He is the Governmental Head, He has divine authority, His realm is universal, He is sovereign, and He is the Supreme ruler.
He has established the government and he cannot be overthrown or voted out. God's reign extends over all things: the cosmos in the beginning God created, the human race- male and female, the angles, and his army all nations. God's kingdom is ruled by love, He that loves not knows not God, and for God is love.(1 John 4:8) Justice- do not take revenge, dear friends but leave room for God's wrath. For it is written "Vengeance belongs to me. I will repay, saith the Lord."(Romans 12:19)
Forgiveness- If you refuse to forgive others, your father will not forgive your sins. (Matthew 6:15) The design of the Kingdom of God is built upon love and forged together by Grace and Mercy. God is all about His strategic plans for His Kingdom. It is imperative that His plans are carried out so that His people will overcome adversity and be victorious because He knows in the end We Win.
The first major battle that Joshua and the Israelist are up against. The Fortified City of Jericho. Joshua and the Israelist have no experience fighting against any one yet especially this city, a great enemy. When you come up against a great enemy then you most certainly need a Greater God.
Never go into battle without God, for you will be defeated running scared from the enemy. But when God sends you out to do battle He will send you help. Joshua was mediating on how he would penetrate the walls of Jericho that He didn't see when the Captain of the Lord's Host had appeared. That's happens to most of us, when our circumstances in our lives are so overwhelming we get so frustrated we make our problems seem bigger than our God.
We forget that God has been waiting by our side with His sword drawn ready to go into battle for us. Joshua asked Him whose side are you on. He said neither, I am from the Kingdom of God, and you are on my side. I Am the Lord who comes so that my will might be accomplished on earth. The Lord has stepped in to fight for his own. The manifestation of the eternal Word of God who in the fullness of time became flesh and armed himself with His sword drawn ready for battle. When God send you into battle He will surely be by your side with a drawn sword.
The Captain of the Lord's Host has handed Joshua the blueprints for the complete destruction of the City of Jericho. God's strategic plans are designed to achieve a particular goal. His goal in this situation was to shake up the land, to inform the inhabitants that He is the Only God that I AM coming. If you are not for me, than you are against me and you are about to be trampled.
