IS JESUS A CREATED BEING?
by Jeremiah opusunju

Knowing that the view that Jesus is the spoken word of God en-fleshed has gained a lot of popularity in the church, it will be pertinent for every believer to address this question; if Jesus was the spoken word of God en-fleshed, at what point in time did God speak the word that created him?
John's testimony is that the Word was in the beginning with God (John 1:1-4); and it is also a fact that we can live with our thoughts, but not with our words. We can only live with the consequences of our words.
Since we can live with our thoughts, it is important to know that a thought can never be said to be a word until the lips have proclaimed it. As it is with humans, so it is with God. His thoughts which he could live with are differentiated from his words.
Speaking of his thoughts he said: "I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil" (Jeremiah 29:11).
Concerning his words he said: "So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it" (Isaiah 55:11).
Even with God, a thought is not a word until it has gone out of his mouth. Therefore if Jesus was the spoken word of God en-fleshed, for him to have been with God in the beginning, then God must have spoken him into existence before the beginning.
John's testimony is that: 'the Word was in the beginning with God', 'the' as used by John is a definite article, which should mean that a particular word must have proceeded out of the mouth of God (and its product made manifest before the beginning), for that Word to have been with God in the beginning.
If this was the case, then Christ would have been created long before Mary's conception, thereby giving credence to those that argue that he was God's first creation.
However since Jesus referred to himself as the Almighty; the creator and upholder of all creations; the First and Last (Colossians 1:16; Hebrews 1:1-3; Revelation 1:8), one is then tempted to ask, did God create an equal to himself before the beginning?
Isaiah's testimonies made such thought baseless; for God said: "before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me"; and that he is: "God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me".
Speaking of creation, God did it alone of which he said: "I am the LORDthat stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself" (Isaiah 43:10; 44:24; 46: 9).
Therefore Jesus, by and for whom all things were created (Colossians 1:15-19), is the same person as the Most High God. No wonder John, speaking of the Word which was in the beginning with the Father, said 'the Word was God'.
However while on earth, clothed with corruptible flesh, he was made lower than the angels which he created, as such the Father was then greater than him ( Hebrews 2:9; Philippians 2:5-11; John 17:1-5).
It is also pertinent to note that the only throne attributed to the person of Jesus in heaven, is the throne of the Most High God. While on earth, Jesus said he was returning to where he came from, which is in the veil, at the right hand of the Majesty on high, on the throne of his Father (John 6: 62; Hebrews 6:19-20; 1:1-3; Revelation 3:21).
Therefore he had been in the veil (in the bosom of the Father) upon the throne of his Father; even before the world began (John 1:18; 17:5, 24) as God and all things were created by him and for him.
This was why God's first introduction of himself to humanity is: "In the beginning God (Elohim or many who are one) created the heaven and the earth" (Gen. 1:1 parenthesis added).
Since the act of creation was done by many who are one (Elohim), we can confidently conclude that Jesus Christ (who is one of the creators of the universe), was not, is not and never will be, a created or formed Being.
