Mornings with Katherine and Sadie
by Tracy Nunes
3/21/2011 / Short Stories
Katherine: "Let's seecoffee with Peruvian sugar and lots of half and half. Yummy!"
Sadie: "WaterI need to find a bathroom, or a hose. so I can drink some water."
Katherine: "Oh Lord, will you look at those wrinkles! Morning mirrors don't help much, that's for sure! I'll have to tell Jim to get those soft lights. Maybe some new wrinkle cream will help too. Or, Botox."
Sadie: "I wish these public bathrooms didn't have mirrors. I look even older than I feel. But, as much as I'm ready to go home, I'm grateful for each day you give me, Lord."
Katherine: "Oh good, there is my new Bible. I couldn't find it yesterday. I just love a new Bible. Now, where is my devotional? Oh right, I remember. I left it in the solarium yesterday."
Sadie: "Lord, I sure miss my old Bible, but I hope whoever stole my bag loves it as much as I did. Still, I'm grateful for this one I got at the mission. Your Word is true, even if it's missing a cover."
Katherine: "Where is my favorite pillow? I can't do my devotions without my favorite pillow."
Sadie: "Jesus, thank you for this overhang to sit under and spend time with You. It sure helps protect me from the rain and I feel like I have You all to myself under its cover."
Katherine: "Lord, will you please change Jim? He never gets me. He never says I look nice. He's always working. I think I'd have to drop dead for him to notice!"
Sadie: "Father, thank you that You gave me a good man to love. I miss him so much! I'm sure he's doing just fine there with You. Will You tell him I can't wait to see him? Life's been hard since he died, but I don't want him to fret. I wish I hadn't lost the house; he worked so hard for it! But, Lord, You still take good care of me."
Katherine: "God, I don't understand why You don't change that woman Judy at church. She's so bossy and can't seem to mind her own business. It's always her way or else. I don't think I can take much more!"
Sadie: "Thank you Father for the people at the mission. They're like family now. Some of them are rough around the edges and, oh boy, sometimes Edwina does try my last nerve! But, I know she means well. I know she's your child. Give me patience with her, Lord."
Katherine: "I need a change. It seems like every day is the same routine. I drive the same car, go to the same restaurants, see the same friends, and go to the same church. I think I need a vacation. And, if Jim tells me the same story again about his friend Bill at work, I think I'll shoot myself!"
Sadie: "I miss my house, Lord. I miss my old neighbors. I miss the birds singing in the fruit trees and the way the sun used to come up over the hedge. But, thank You for bringing me to the city Lord. It's hard sometimes, but my needs are met here."
Katherine: "Lord, will you talk to Jim and tell him I need a new car? I hate the color of my old one and I just feel so embarrassed every time I have lunch with Jean. She acts like a queen getting out of her Lexus. My BMW was great, but it's already five years old!"
Sadie: "I can't believe how blessed I am Lord! That reconditioned walker is helping me so much! It even has a little seat that helps me to rest when my bad leg gets weary. I don't know what I'd do without it. Will You bless the dear soul that donated it? Help them know You love them!
Katherine: "My goodness! I had no idea it was 9:00 o'clock! I think fifteen minutes is enough for now, anyway. I've got to run. I have a pedicure!"
Sadie: "Lord, time with You is like sweet water down my thirsty throat. I could just talk to You all day! It's like the clock stands still when we're together and the world just fades away. Just You and me, Father. Thank you for the time You give me and help me to spend it wisely, Lord. Give me strength for whatever this day brings and order my steps. I love
