If God really exists, then why...?
by Chris Umeweni

We all live in a world where everyone has the right to speak and say whatever comes out of their hearts. Many have seen and experienced lots of calamities in their lifetime and have quickly concluded that there is no God. They have asked questions such as - If God really exists:

*** Then why did that innocent baby die?
*** Why did such a natural disaster happen?
*** Why did that so-called Christian sister or brother die that way? Or,
*** Why am I suffering this way? ...and many more.

Each time I hear such questions, I remember the passage of the scripture that says,
"The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good" (Proverbs 14:1 KJV).

We should all have it in mind that we were created by God in His image and likeness and have been handed down 'a manual' the Bible, to live by. It is then by constant study and obedience of the Word that we now know those things which were freely given to us by God to enjoy; but sometimes we ignore it. It is little wonder Hosea 4:6 (Amplified Version) says:
"My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you [the priestly nation] have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you that you shall be no priest to Me; seeing you have forgotten the law of your God, I will also forget your children."

Let no one deceive you. God is a loving God. Even the bible says He is Love. In fact, the bible says, "For God SO loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son (John 3:16 KJV emphasis added). That does not also means he is not a just God.

I have come to find out that whatever happens to an individual, family, city, state, or even a nation is as a result of their CHOICE. God has done everything for man to live a victorious and successful life here on earth. It is now left for such a one to find it out and heed to it.

Now, before you still go ahead to ask the above questions, I would want you to see few reasons why it seems there is no God.

1. SIN
"Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened at all, that it cannot save, nor His ear dull with deafness, that it cannot hear. But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear" (Isaiah 59:1,2).

If there is anything God detests, it is sin. He hates it so much that he sent His only beloved Son, Jesus to come and exchange His life for our life. Even on the cross where Jesus hung, carrying every sin and curse of humanity, the Father forsook Him (Matthew 27:46); just to show you the extent at which God hates sin. God so much wants to communicate with us but when He sees we have not opened our hearts to accept the sacrifice of His Son Jesus (who is the only Way to Him), he has no option than to keep silent.

2. POOR INTERCESSORY PRAYER LIFE
It happened at one time when Herod the king persecuted the early church so much that he killed one of them James. And because he saw it pleased the people, he also apprehended peter and put him in prison so as to do likewise to him, the following day. Now the bible says:
"Peter therefore was kept in prison: BUT prayer was made WITHOUT CEASING of the church unto God for him" (Acts 12:5 KJV emphasis added).
Guess what? That same night, an angel of God came and delivered Peter miraculously from that prison! This all happened because some people stood for Peter in prayers. Rather than sit back and question, "Oh God, where were you when Herod killed James?" they came together and corrected their mistakes.

Listen to me. As a parent, that baby of yours is in your hands to make constant intercessions for. As a nation, praying for our President is our responsibility. Let's not allow selfishness eat deep into us and afterwards we sit back and ask, "Where are you God?" The Bible clearly reveals that Jesus came to give us LIFE in abundance but our enemy the devil, who has no other business, came to steal, kill and destroy. We should give no place to the devil. No wonder the Bible says, "Pray without ceasing" (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

3. NOT BEING LED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT
When Jesus finished His earthly, He sent us the Holy Spirit to dwell in our bodies as His temple and lead us to the destination of our various lives and purposes of existence.
"Now we have not received the spirit [that belongs to] the world, but the [Holy] Spirit Who is from God, [given to us] that we might realize and comprehend and appreciate the gifts [of divine favor and blessing so freely and lavishly] bestowed on us by God" (1 Corinthians 2:12 Amplified Version).

The Bible also says that the Holy Spirit will show us things to come (John 16:13). So, why must a Christian so much end up in disaster? The Bible answers it clearly in Romans 8:14 (emphasis added):
"For AS MANY as are LED BY THE SPIRIT are the sons of God."

Anyone has the right to call him or herself a Christian but it is in the yielding to the leading of the Spirit that we enjoy the benefits of Christianity.

Brethren, there are lots to enjoy from the One whom the Bible calls "OUR FATHER." He is closer to us than anybody or thing; ever desiring to commune with us. No wonder when one is born again, the Holy Spirit joins with our spirit and we become one with the Lord. We then begin to think and act wisely.

Never you sit there and point accusing fingers at God. What of those days you never experienced any problem. Did you thank Him for that? Come on, get off that wrong mentality and ask God for forgiveness. He is ever ready to forgive. Hear Him say:
"I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins" (Isaiah 43:25 KJV).
"I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with loving kindness have I drawn thee" (Jeremiah 31:3 KJV).

God bless you.
