Christmas Gift Ideas for Students in Sunday School
by Denise Oliveri How can you choose the appropriate Christmas gift for the Sunday school children? With so much emphasis on the commercial aspect of Christmas, too often the "Christ" is removed from the holiday season. The one place you do not want this to happen is when you are choosing those Sunday school gifts. Here are a few Christmas gift ideas. Bibles for Christmas Of course these can make an excellent Christmas Sunday school gift. There are Bibles that are geared for younger children that contain colorful pictures and larger, simpler text for young readers. There are also Bibles that have New English translations for teen and young adults. These "plain reading" translations allow teens to read the Biblical passages with a modern linguistic interpretation. Stuffed Animals Find animals that appear in Bible that have special meaning such as the fish, dove and the lamb. These make excellent gifts or younger children and pre-teen girls will love them. Crosses for Christmas Crosses come in all sizes and materials and can be as simple as a small plain wooden cross to an elegant silver cross on a chain. These gifts will many times remain with the child for their entire life. Christian Video and Audio Gifts Christian videotapes, DVDs and CDs like Veggie Tales or Christian Christmas Carols are great gifts to give. You can buy Christmas-related gifts in this category or branch out to ones that are great for all year-round. Christmas Tree Ornaments Take a class picture with your digital camera (do this very soon!). Print the picture on to sticker paper. Cut out the pictures and stick them to bare Christmas ornaments. If you want to put the pictures on a round ornament, make sure the pictures print in an oval shape. If you want to put the pictures on a square or rectangular ornament, adjust the size and shape of the picture accordingly before printing. You can then decorate the ornaments with glitter for an added touch. Christmas Goodie Bags Fill cellophane Christmas goodie bags with novelty toys that you can find at your local Christian bookstore or outlet. Don't forget to include a candy cane for each child, along with the story of the candy cane to go along with it. Preschoolers will have fun searching through the goodie bags to find what small treasures you have placed inside. It does not take much to make a preschool child happy. They are very simple in their thinking. It is the thought that you gave them something for Christmas that will fill their hearts with joy. Start planning the gifts for your Sunday school class now, so you are prepared. Denise Oliveri is the owner of Preschool Sunday School Central (http://www.psscentral.com).
