A Special Assignment for Lucy Mouse, A Children's Story
by Nancy Quinn "Who would like to sing a solo for the Christmas Eve service?" asked Mrs. Franklin, the church choir director. Lucy Mouse briefly smiled at the thought, but didn't raise her hand. She loved to sing in church, but the thought of singing by herself sent shivers up her whiskers. As the students put on their coats after practice, Mrs. Franklin lightly tapped Lucy's shoulder and said, "Lucy, I hear your beautiful voice shining through the choir. I hope you consider blessing the congregation on Christmas Eve! God has given you a beautiful singing voice." Lucy nodded and said she would think about it. Her mom had overheard the choir director and encouraged Lucy as they went downstairs to their home in the church basement behind the Christmas ornaments box. "You were blessed with a talent for singing, Lucy. What a wonderful Christmas gift it would be to sing for the Lord in church on Christmas Eve!" "But I don't think I'm good enough to sing by myself. What if I forget the words or I sing some notes off key?" squeaked Lucy. Her mom reminded her that the Lord gave her the talent of singing as a gift, and then it's our job to practice and use our talent for God. "If you practice, you won't forget the words or sing off key. And besides, no one would laugh if you do happen to miss a note. They'll be so happy you chose to bless them with your talent, they wouldn't even notice." As Lucy Mouse said her prayers that night, she thanked God for her voice and knew what her answer to Mrs. Franklin would be at the next choir practice. "Maybe she'll let me sing Silent Night, Holy Night!" Do you have the confidence to serve the Lord with the talents He has given you? If you like music, sports, or even have a talent to encourage others and make them smile, God gave you gifts and talents and He is happy when you use them to bless others. You are very special to God and you can always be confident that He will help you do your best. And if you don't think you know what your talents and gifts are yet, just pray that God will show you and then be patient God will someday show you what you can do to help others and it will be a very special and unique gift He gave just for YOU! Dear God, I know I am a sinner. Please forgive me. I believe that Jesus died for me on the cross and that He arose from the grave so that I can live with Him in Heaven someday. I am now trusting Jesus as my Savior. Thank you for loving me and saving me. Amen. Philippians 4:13 "For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength."
