WHEN A CHILD DIES a prayer
by Richard L. Provencher

When a child dies there is no longer laughter in the rain
nor sunshiny days, only clouds that cause us pain.

Whispering grass in fields nearby once called your name
but, you're not at home this day.

When blue jays play games in the wind, you're not there.
They watch for you and do not understand.

No more family times or picnic fun. Oh how you used to
scream and run.

Your friends will call and ask your name. You've gone away
we'll say.

Oh, those times with dad and hugs from mom. And now they
look so sad.

Grandpa and grandma too will miss their little friend.

There were times you prayed for others and now the words
are for you, this day.

Yes, it's sad for God's own gift to be called away.

Some will ask why and how come? We don't know or even
understand.

There is a reason they say for all good things around our
sun.

And we know that little child has gone to a better place.
Yes, yes we know.

Not just to visit a new home but to stay.

Our little child now lays awake at night and dreams of things
that used to be.

We will meet again one day, little one, you'll see.
