National Day of Prayer
by Steven Walls

Our Heavenly Father,

We pray to You today on our National Day of Prayer, asking for Your forgiveness that we haven't made EVERYDAY a national day of prayer. We are sorry we haven't put You on the pedestal that You deserve to be on. We ask Your forgiveness for those in this country who don't glorify Your name and who rebuke You. We know that the three hundred million people that live in this country should be on their faces before You everyday. Please forgive those who insist on keeping You out of our schools and public institutions, and who shun Your Word. Help the believers to reach them somehow and bring them to You.
Have mercy on us Lord as we continue to hate, fight, murder and commit wrongs against each other. We pray for the unborn babies in this country, who are treated as if they were garbage, we are ashamed and our only consolation is the knowledge that they will be in the arms of Jesus. Help us to stop this atrocity. We pray for the teachers of our children, whether in schools or in our homes. We pray for our law enforcement officers and emergency workers, please give them the courage and strength that they need to perform their dangerous jobs. Please be with our doctors and nurses as they tend to the injured and ill. Help them and others realize that true healing comes from You and that You do answer our prayers. Help us to always love and care for our elderly. Comfort those who have no loved ones.
Lord we have an epidemic of cancer and other diseases in this country. It is breaking our hearts, especially when babies and children become infected. We pray for their healing and strength. Please rid us of cancer, please heal our children.
Dear Father we offer our prayer for the leaders in the government of this country. Help them to understand the importance of their duties as they relate to the people. Place Your hand on our President and guide him daily to make decisions based on a Godly perspective. Show the world what can be accomplished in Your name. Lord help us as a nation to stop the continual decline of our morale values. We can stand up to the spread of immorality and acceptance of ungodliness with your help.
We pray for the safety and courage of our soldiers who are in other countries around the world. Be with them and give them hope, let them feel Your presence and caring. Bring them home safely when their job is done. Give their families courage; please watch over their children for they are Your children.
We pray for the churches in this country. We pray for the strength and unity of the Universal Church of Christ. Help us to stay strong and not be passive concerning the events of our country and our world. There is nothing more powerful than if we speak as one for Christ. Let us never forget that.
Father on this day we honor and praise Your Holy Name. We believe in the power of prayer because You are the Creator and Sustainer of the universe. You are the Father of all mankind. We believe in the love that You have for us even though we continue to sin in Your sight. Have mercy on us Holy One.
In Jesus blessed name we pray. Amen.
